
Jakaitis Records Second-Straight Shutout to Close 2013

North Charleston, S.C. - Goaltender Jeff Jakaitis registered his second-straight shutout and third of the season stopping all 38 shots faced to help the South Carolina Stingrays (22-5-1-2) defeat the Elmira Jackals (9-16-1-2) 2-0 on at the North Charleston Coliseum Tuesday evening. With the win, Jakaitis improves his personal winning streak to nine games.
Stingrays defenseman Zach Currie opened the scoring late in the first period knocking a rebound past the outstretched right pad of Jackals goaltender Maxime Clermont (L, 28 saves on 30) at 16:41. Defensemen Jeremy Price and Derrick Pallis recorded assists.
Forward Peter Boyd extended his point streak to seven contests (three goals, seven assists) and gave the Stingrays a two-goal advantage with his ninth goal of the season at 9:09 of the second period with help for forward Paul Rodrigues and Pallis. In the third period, the Jackals fired 16 shots on goal to the Stingrays' four, but could not solve Jakaitis. The Stingrays finished the contest 0-for-2 on the power play while the Jackals went 0-for-3.
The Stingrays visit the Gwinnett Gladiators on Thursday, January 2 at 2:05 p.m. at The Arena at Gwinnett Center and return to the North Charleston Coliseum Friday, January 3 at 7:05 p.m. for Family Four Pack Friday!
