EVANSVILLE, Ind. - Garrett Bartus pitched a 42 save shutout, as the Evansville IceMen topped the Gwinnett Gladiators on a New year's Eve Tuesday, 6-0 at the Ford Center.

Evansville jumped all over the Gladiators in the opening period. It took just 2:22 for Peter Sakaris to put the IceMen on the board, and Josh Beaulieu (12:33) and former Gladiator Matt Krug (19:37) followed up with power play goals to put Gwinnett down 3-0 through one period.

Despite outshooting the IceMen 17-9 in the middle period Gwinnett couldn't gain any ground, and Tristan King potted the lone goal of the stanza just 1:39 in for a 4-0 Evansville lead through 40 minutes.

The IceMen weren't finished, as Sakaris scored his second goal of the game 1:55 into the third, and Daulton Leveille capped the scoring at 12:09.

Brad Phillips took the loss for the Gladiators, surrendering all six goals on 29 shots.

Gwinnett will kick off 2014 at home, hosting the South Carolina Stingrays at the Arena at Gwinnett Center at 2:05 p.m.

The Gladiators are members of the ECHL, the nation's premier "AA" hockey league and are affiliated with the Phoenix Coyotes of the NHL. All home games are played at the 11,355-seat Arena at Gwinnett Center, located just off I-85 on Sugarloaf Parkway in Duluth.
