Reading Royals News Release
Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League and the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League, today announced that the team has activated forward Julien Cayer from the 21-Day Injured Reserve. In separate transactions, the Royals also signed goaltender Russ Stein to an ECHL contract; and (ii) suspended forward Louie Caporusso.
Cayer, a second year pro from Longueuil, Quebec, sustained an upper body injury in the Royals' third game of the season against the Elmira Jackals in a play that resulted in a major penalty for charging and supplementary discipline assessed against Elmira forward Riley Boychuk. Cayer missed twenty-two games for the Royals while on injured reserve. He has picked up two penalty minutes in three games this year with Reading. Stein (6'1/180) (24), a first year pro from Ridgefield, Connecticut, has played one game in the ECHL this year. He made 31 saves for the Elmira Jackals in a 5-4 overtime loss to the Cincinnati Cyclones on December 21, 2013 (0-0-1-0, 4.62, .861). He has also played four games with Peoria in the Southern Professional Hockey League this season (1-1-0-0, 4.84, .855). Prior to turning pro, Stein played collegiately at Providence College. Caporusso, a third year pro from Woodbridge, Ontario, has expressed a desire to pursue a hockey opportunity in Europe. He had twenty-eight points (7g-21a) in twenty-four games for Reading this year.
The Royals return to action this evening (New Year's Eve - Tuesday, December 31 @ 6:00 pm) when the team will travel to WesBanco Arena in Wheeling, West Virginia to take on the Wheeling Nailers. The game night broadcast on CBS Sports Radio 1240 am and 98.5 will kick off with the Highmark Blue Shield Warm-Up Show at 5:30 pm on the Royals Broadcast Network . As with all Royals' road games, Tuesday's matchup will be televised locally in Berks County, Pennsylvania on BCTV courtesy of Boscov's Travel and Apple Vacations.
