Cincinnati Cyclones News Release

KALAMAZOO, Michigan - The Cincinnati Cyclones (18-9-1-1) nearly capped off another impressive late-game rally, however, the Kalamazoo Wings (15-11-0-2) were able to prevent an equalizer to earn a 4-3 win in front of 3,540 at Wings Stadium on Tuesday night.

The Cyclones power play converted for the third straight game to take an early 1-0 lead; after catching a great pass from Jack Combs, Paul Crowder dangled past Jordan Binnington (W, 30 saves, 10-6-0) and potted his eighth marker of the season. Unfortunately, just 1:47 later, Yanni Gourde came up with a loose puck in the low slot and beat Rob Madore (L, 16 saves, 9-4-0) with a shot over the left pad to even things at one. Then, at 18:14, Yannick Veilleux hit Aaron Clark all alone at the side of the net to set up the Wings' go-ahead strike. The hometown club carried the 2-1 edge after 20 minutes.

Kalamazoo extended their advantage early in the middle period as Matt Caria picked up a pair of tallies, making it a 4-1 game with less than seven minutes gone by. Cincinnati would rally back, though, with Dan Eves netting a breakaway goal at 11:22 followed by a similar strike from Jack Combs at 14:25. Thanks to the two quick lamplighters, the Cyclones only trailed 4-3 at the second intermission.

The Cyclones maintained the momentum throughout the final period of regulation, peppering the Kalamazoo goaltender with 10 shots in the frame. Unfortunately, Binnington was equal to the task on all of them - including a Combs breakaway with eight seconds to play in regulation to seal a 4-3 win for the Wings.

The same two teams will go head-to-head to open up 2014 portion of the schedule on Friday night at Wings Stadium with a 7:30pm opening face-off. Fans can hear coverage of the game on the Cyclones Radio Network (CyclonesHockey.com, America One, Cyclones Mobile App) beginning at 7:00pm.
