Kalamazoo Wings News Release
Kalamazoo, MI- The Kalamazoo Wings were propelled by timely goaltending and bunched scoring as they skated past the Cincinnati Cyclones 4-3 on Tuesday night in the 12th Annual New Year's Eve Game at Wings Stadium.
Needing just 10 seconds of their first and only power-play of the first period the Cyclones grabbed an early lead with a goal from Paul Crowder (8th).
Responding less than two minutes later, Yanni Goude (14th), who was falling to the ice, lifted a backhander past Rob Madore 11:50 into the period.
Kalamazoo built on their momentum late in the period when Yannick Veilleux found Aaron Clarke (4th) for a one-timer to put the K-Wings ahead 2-1.
In the blink of an eye the K-Wings increased their lead to 4-1 with a pair of goals from Matt Caria (5th, 6th) 2:14 apart in the second period. Caria etched his first goal with a power-play deflection on the K-Wings first power-play of the night 4:39 into the period.
Skating in the slot Caria lifted a wrister over the shoulder of Madore to give the K-Wings the three-goal advantage.
Cincinnati's Dan Eves (3rd) responded midway in the period by blocking a blue line slap shot and racing the puck up ice for a breakaway tally
Jack Combs (6th) brought the Cyclones back to within a goal scoring on a breakaway of his own. The tally extended his goal streak to four games.
The K-Wings hung onto the victory with several huge saves from Jordan Binnington, including a breakaway save on Combs with eight seconds remaining in regulation.
