New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
PORTLAND, ME- Gabe Jacobo had two hits to pace the Fisher Cats, but Portland scored four times in the third inning en route to a 5-2 win over New Hampshire on Friday night at Hadlock Field.
The division leading Sea Dogs (21-11) took advantage of two, two-out errors in the bottom of the third inning, scoring four times. Shannon Wilkerson, who had walked, scored on an error. Travis Shaw singled in a run and Blake Swihart doubled off the Maine Monster in left field as two runs scored (one on a throwing error at the plate).
The Fisher Cats (14-19) bounced back in the top of the fourth inning. Brad Glenn walked and Michael Crouse followed with a double. Glenn scored on a wild pitch as Crouse took third. Kevin Nolan's groundout plated Crouse to cut the deficit to 4-2. Jacobo followed with his second hit, a double, but advanced no further. It would be the final hit of the night for the Fisher Cats.
The final run for the Sea Dogs came across in the bottom of the seventh inning. Mookie Betts singled, moved to second on a walk and took third on a fielders choice. Carlos Rivero delivered the RBI single to put Portland up 5-2.
Deck McGuire (LP: 3-4) took the loss, working 5.1 innings. He allowed four hits and the four unearned runs in the third inning. McGuire struck out three and walked three.
Brian Johnson (WP: 2-0) won his second consecutive start since joining the Sea Dogs. He allowed two runs on six hits, walked one and struck out eight. Noe Ramirez worked three innings of scoreless relief for his second save.
Betts, with a walk and a single, extended his consecutive on-base streak to 61 games dating back to last season. New Hampshire's Andy Burns, who had reached safely in 16 straight, saw the streak end with an 0-for-3.
