NYSEG Stadium - Binghamton, NY - 7:05 PM
LAST GAME: Jayce Boyd collected four RBI, including three on a tie-breaking home run in the fifth inning, to lead the Binghamton Mets past the Harrisburg Senators, 12-6, on Thursday night at NYSEG Stadium. Every B-Met scored at least one run and picked up one hit in Binghamton's second straight win. The club set season-highs with a dozen runs and 14 hits. Darin Gorski allowed a home run to Michael Taylor on his first pitch of the game, but settled down to pitch six innings en route to his third win of the season. Blake Schwartz was tagged for five runs over five innings in his sixth loss. Harrisburg got within three in the eighth, but the B-Mets put the game out of reach with a four-run eighth inning off Brian Dupra.
BINGHAMTON STARTER: RHP Matt Bowman makes his fifth start of the season and his first career against the Senators. Bowman comes off a loss to the Portland Sea Dogs in the nightcap of a doubleheader on May 3. The righty was tagged for a career-high nine runs on ten hits, including a pair of home runs. He lasted 4.1 innings, snapping his season-opening three-game winning streak. Selected in the 12th round of the 2012 Draft by the Mets out of Princeton University, he is entering his third year in the organization.
HARRISBURG STARTER: RHP Brad Meyers takes the hill for the first time in 2014. Meyers spent the first month of the season in extended spring training before getting added to the Senators roster on May 7. Meyers was snatched by the New York Yankees in the Rule 5 Draft following the 2011 season, but was returned to the Nationals in October 2012. In the last two season he has thrown only 6.2 innings in three games due to injury. He was selected by the Nationals in the 5th round of the 2007 draft out of Loyola Marymount University.
BOYD BASHING: B-Mets 1B/DH Jayce Boyd has gone 8-for-10 in his last three games with three doubles, two home runs, six runs scored and five RBI. He has raised his batting average by 69 percentage points during the stretch. Boyd became the first B-Met to collect four RBI in one game since Cory Vaughn drove in four against the Erie SeaWolves on August 11, 2013.
BUSTING OUT THE BATS: Binghamton pounded out a season-high 14 hits on Thursday. Every B-Met, including starter Darin Gorski and pinch-hitter Matt Clark had at least one hit and one run scored. It was the most hits the B-Mets have collected since their 14-hit attack against the Reading Fightin Phils on August 15, 2013. It was the 13th time in 2014 they have reach double-figures in hits. They've collected 10 or more in three of their last five games.
PITCHERS PITCHING IN: B-Mets starter Darin Gorski helped his own cause with a two-hit game on Thursday. He singled home two runs in the second and doubled and scored in the fifth. It was his first hit since July 9, 2012 against the Altoona Curve. B-Mets pitchers hit .118 at the plate last year with 3 RBI and 31 strikeouts.
FIVE STRAIGHT: Dating back to last year, the B-Mets have won five straight games against the Sens.
COVERING THE BASES: The B-Mets have hit .321 (34-for-106) in their last three games with eight doubles, one triple and six home runs. Their 62 total bases during are the most in a three-game stretch since they racked up 63 from July 6-8 last year.
BOMBS AWAY: The B-Mets have put up three straight multiple-home run games for the first time since they had multiple home runs in five straight games against New Hampshire in July 2013.
NEXT GAME PREVIEW: The B-Mets continue their only series at home against the Senators on Saturday afternoon with a 1:05 PM game. RHP Rainy Lara toes the rubber against RHP Paolo Espino.
