Reading Fightin Phils News Release
Jesse Biddle struggled after the second inning as Trenton scored five runs against him. The Fightin Phils had an early 1-0 lead but ultimately lost 8-2 against the Thunder. The Fightin Phils are now 15-16 on the season.
Cesar Hernandez hit a RBI single off Thunder starter Manny Banuelos in the top of the third inning to give the Fightin Phils a 1-0 lead. Trenton took the lead quickly in the bottom of the third inning off Jesse Biddle as Ben Gamel hit a RBI triple and Rob Segedin hit a sacrifice fly to give the Thunder a 2-1 lead.
Brock Stassi tied the game at 2-2 for the Fightin Phils in the top of the fourth inning off reliever Manny Barreda as he grounded into a fielder's choice that scored Aaron Altherr from third base. Trenton broke the 2-2 tie in the bottom of the fifth inning off Biddle as Gary Sanchez hit a sacrifice fly with the bases loaded to give the Thunder a 3-2 lead.
Trenton chased Jesse Biddle out of the game in the bottom of the sixth inning as they scored two more runs to take a 5-2 lead. Biddle went 5 1/3 innings and allowed five runs off eight hits with three walks. He recorded six strikeouts in the process.
Trenton scored three runs off Jay Johnson in the bottom of the seventh inning to take a 8-2 lead. Ryan O'Sullivan finished the seventh inning after Johnson left. Austin Wright pitched a scoreless eighth inning.
The Fightin Phils and Trenton Thunder play at 7:05 pm on Saturday at Arm and Hammer Park.
