
Jackals Take Down Boulders In Extra Innings

Rockland County, NY - Santiago Chirino's sacrifice fly provided New Jersey with the winning run and Alfredo Marte's throw from left field in the bottom of the frame prevented the tying run from scoring as the visiting Jackals downed the New York Boulders, 3-2, in 10 innings at Palisades Credit Union Park.
Chirino drove in Riley Mihalik with a drive to left center that was caught by a diving Milton Smith, Jr.
In the bottom of the 10th, with two outs, Jack Sundberg lined a single to left off of Matt Vogel. Smith, Jr., who began the frame at second base, was gunned downed at the plate by Marte to end the game.
Dylan Brammer picked up the win in relief for New Jersey, with Vogel recording the save, while James Mulry, the Boulders' fourth pitcher of the night, was tagged with the loss.
New York tied the game at 2-2 with a run in the home half of the eighth. With one out, Milton Smith, Jr. drew a walk off Jackals' reliever Jason Zgardowski. One out later, Zgardowski hit Kevonte Mitchell with a pitch.
Dylan Brammer relieved Zgardowski and was greeted by Jack Sundberg with a single to left that scored Smith, Jr. Brammer escaped the inning without further damage by getting Tucker Nathans to line out to second.
The Jackals took a 2-1 lead in the top of the third on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Santiago Chirino that scored Demetrius Moore, who had walked earlier in the inning and moved around to third on a hit-and-run single through the right side by Chris Carpio.
The teams had traded single runs in the second inning - New Jersey's coming on a home run to left by Alfredo Marte, the Boulders on a single by Brandon Bingle that plated Zach Penprase, who had walked with one out and stole second.
The game began as an old fashion pitchers' dual between New York's Dan Wirchansky and New Jersey's Spencer Hereford.
In six innings of work, Hereford allowed four hits and one run while striking out seven and walking four, Meanwhile, Wirchansky went seven innings and surrendered two runs on seven hits while walking three and striking out five,
The Boulders and Jackals complete their three-game series with a 1:30 p.m. matinee on Sunday,
