Elmira Jackals News Release

The Elmira Jackals (11-5-4-0) fell 6-1 to the Reading Royals (12-7-0-0) on Friday night at the Sovereign Center, giving the Jackals their first regulation road loss of the season. Elmira returns home to host the Kalamazoo Wings on Saturday at First Arena at 7:35 p.m.

Matt Generous' turnaround shot from the right blue line at 3:34 of the first period fluttered over the right shoulder of Jackals goaltender Marco Cousineau to give Reading the 1-0 lead. Yannick Riendeau finished a rebound from an Andrew Sarauer shot at 14:02 to make it 2-0, while Eric Castonguay sent a puck in from the left circle at 17:17 to increase Reading's lead to 3-0.

In the second period, Casey Haines received the puck in the right circle from Devin Timberlake at 9:37 and wristed it in for Reading's fourth goal of the contest, while Ben Gordon banked a shot off of Cousineau from the right dot and into the net at 13:51 for the 5-0 Royals lead. Cousineau was replaced by Zane Kalemba after Reading's fifth goal.

The Jackals scored the first goal of the third period when Kevin DeVergilio had a puck deflect off of his leg and into the net on a feed from Patrick Coulombe at 3:15 for his third goal of the season. Eric Castonguay took possession for the Royals minutes later in the slot and beat Kalemba stick side with a wrist shot, making it 6-1 and closing the scoring at 7:15 of the third.

Cousineau fell to 7-4-4-0 on the season with 20 saves on 25 shots, while Royals goaltender Ben Scrivens upped his record to 5-3-0-0 with a 25-save performance.

The Jackals return home to First Arena on Saturday at 7:35 p.m. when they host the Kalamazoo Wings on DeMet's Turtle Toss night. For tickets, call (607) 734-PUCK (7825), visit the First Arena Box Office, or log onto JackalsHockey.com.
