Elmira Jackals News Release
ELMIRA, NY - Elmira Jackals goalie Scott Greenham made his home debut a memorable one with a 31-save shutout on Friday night to lead the Elmira Jackals past the Greenville Road Warriors 3-0. The win improved Elmira to 2-2-0 on the season.
Greenham was tested early in the first period as Greenville turned three Elmira turnovers into quality scoring chances. He rose to the occasion, however, and a well-executed faceoff play led to Elmira grabbing the lead. After a clean win by Philip-Michael Devos, Raman Hrabarenka fed Kyle Bushee at the center point for a quick snap shot. Artem Demkov was camped out in front and deflected the shot past Greenville goalie Jeff Malcom at 8:11 for his second goal of the season. Elmira totaled 15 shots in the first, but several strong stops by Malcolm kept Elmira from building the lead further.
The second period was a battle of the goaltenders with Malcolm and Greenham matching each other save-for-save. Malcolm made his best stop on a Jordan Pietrus shorthanded breakaway, while Greenham had to turn aside several quality shots from close range. With neither team able to bury a chance, the stage was set for a dramatic third.
Elmira quickly took much of the drama out of the final stanza, though, when a former Road Warrior set up an important insurance goal. Danny Hobbs stole the puck away on a Greenville breakout attempt and quickly hit an open Devos in the right wing circle. Devos' one-time blast beat Malcolm under the crossbar and gave Devos his first goal as a Jackal. Just over six minutes later Jakub Culek beat a defender wide on the left wing and fed the puck to an open Rob Bellamy for a quick goal that put Elmira in front by three. Bellamy netted his first of the year on the play, and Jordan Pietrus assisted for his first point. A minute after Bellamy's goal, Devos took a double-minor for high-sticking, but Elmira kept Greenville's power play at bay and salted away the win.
Greenham earned his second professional shutout with the 31 saves. Elmira ended the night 0-for-3 on the power play and 4-for-4 on the penalty kill.
