Elmira Jackals News Release

Trenton, NJ- For the fourth straight meeting the Trenton Devils thrived on special teams and tough goaltending. Two first period goals and a 28 save performance from Gerald Coleman boosted the Devils to a 2-1 win over the Jackals tonight at Sovereign Bank Arena. With the win the Devils sit one point away from the Jackals in the North Division standings.

The Devils power play opened the scoring eight minutes into the first period. Trevor Kell put a Ryan Gunderson rebound past Jackals goalie Michael Teslak. The Devils then extended the lead to 2-0 at the 11:14 mark on a goal from Matt Radoslovich, his seventh of the year. Though trailing 2-0 after one period of play, the Jackals first period was highlighted by fights from Guillaume Lepine and Joe Grimaldi and a 10-5 shot advantage.

The Jackals carried the first period momentum into the second with a Derek Couture goal just 1:22 in. Benoit Doucet got the assist on the goal. The high tempo, back and fourth second period continued to produce big saves and good chances. The Jackals nearly tied the game at 2-2 on a controversial short handed chance around the 12:00 mark. Derek Couture looked to have flipped the puck past the downed Coleman and over the goal line, but the play was whistled dead. The 2-1 score held through 40 minutes of play.

The third period would feature some of the better goaltending we've seen this season. The Jackals fired everything they had in the way of Gerald Coleman couldn't find a way to tie the game at 2-2. Coleman finished the night with 28 saves.

With the loss the Jackals fall to 20-18-1-3 while the Devils improve to 20-16-1-2.
