Victoria Salmon Kings News Release

Las Vegas, NV -The Victoria Salmon Kings and Las Vegas Wranglers met for the first time during the 2008-09 season in Nevada on Friday night. It was the first of three games in three days between Victoria and Las Vegas. The Salmon Kings started Todd Ford in net while the Wranglers countered with Kevin Lalande

Defense was the name of the game through the first 20 minutes as neither team was able to light the lamp. Todd Ford made a handful of solid saves for Victoria as the Wranglers poster 12 shots to the Salmon Kings five through the first 20 minutes.

The Wranglers got onto the board first during the power play when Mick Lawrence skated out of the left wing corner. He slipped the puck to teammate Kelly Czuy who was stationed in the slot area and was able to put the puck past Ford. The Wranglers would lead 1-0 through 40 minutes.

Sean O'Connor would tie the game when he deflected a Patrick Coulombe point shot past Lalande on the power play. The Salmon Kings continued to press, but neither team would break the deadlock and the game would go to overtime tied 1-1. The extra session solved nothing. The teams went to the shootout. Shaun Landolt snapped the 2-2 shootout tie in round 10 of the shootout to give the Salmon Kings the win. Salmon Kings 2 Wranglers 1 in a shootout.

Victoria went 1/5=20% on the power play and Las Vegas ended 1/6=16.7%. The Wranglers outshot the Salmon Kings 32-31.

Victoria and Las Vegas continue their three-game set tomorrow night at 7:30 p.m. PT and the third game on Sunday goes at 2:05 PT. The Stockton Thunder then come to the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre on Jan. 27 & 28 for a two-game set both games go at 7:05 p.m.
