TRENTON, NJ -- Jeff Prough's goal 42 seconds into the third was enough for the Trenton Devils in their record-breaking 3-2 win over the Johnstown Chiefs Saturday night.

Prough whacked in a rebound off a Dave Leaderer shot early in the final period to preserve the Devils' win, their eighth in a row at Sovereign Bank Arena and their ninth in the month of January, both of them new Trenton records.

Things looked bad early for Trenton as Sean Berkstresser scored shorthanded on a breakaway 3:43 into the contest, his eighth goal of the season.

The Devils controlled most of the second period, in which they broke through on a shot by Dan Eves three minutes into the stanza.

Trenton took the lead on the power play, as Trevor Kell backhanded in a rebound from in front of the net at 5:16.

The Chiefs tied the game late in the second period, as Petr Pohl fired a wrist shot from the right circle. The power play goal came with 45 seconds left in the frame.

Despite the late momentum by the Chiefs, Prough deflated that with his game-winning goal in the third, his 14th of the season and sixth against the Chiefs. The Devils outshot the Chiefs in the contest, 48-28.

The Devils head on the road Friday night for the first of back-to-back games against the Elmira Jackals, with the puck drop scheduled for 7:35 p.m. Fans can listen to the free audio broadcast of the game online at www.trentondevils.com, courtesy of B2 Networks.
