Johnstown Chiefs News Release

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. - The Johnstown Chiefs, ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Colorado Avalanche and Columbus Blue Jackets, and the AHL's Lake Erie Monsters and Syracuse Crunch, announced today that they have traded winger Mike Sgroi to the Utah Grizzlies in exchange for future considerations.

Sgroi played 12 games in his second season with the Chiefs and posted three goals, including one game winner, and 22 penalty minutes along the way. The 6-foot-5, 230 pound winger also skated in three games with the Crunch where he had one goal and 14 penalty minutes.

Sgroi was acquired in a January 2008 trade from Pensacola and amassed 13 goals, 25 points, and 192 penalty minutes in just 27 games with the Chiefs. That was part of a career year for the Toronto native in which he had 25 goals, 47 points, and 257 penalty minutes. He re-signed as a free agent with Johnstown over the summer, but broke his hand in training camp with Syracuse and didn't see game action until early December.

Sgroi will not be in uniform tonight when the Chiefs take on the Trenton Devils in Trenton at 7:00 p.m. ET.

Mark your calendars! The Chiefs are back on home ice on Wednesday, January 28 and will be hosting the Mississippi Sea wolves. That game will feature a team poster giveaway for the first 1,500 fans in attendance at the UPMC Health Plan Ice Rink and seats are going quickly!
