Elmira Jackals News Release
Trenton, N.J. - The Elmira Jackals established a three-goal lead in the second period on Friday night at the Sun National Bank Center but could not hold on as the Trenton Titans stormed back for a 4-3 victory.
Artem Demkov scored his seventh goal in as many games to put the Jackals on the board at 3:31, finding a rebound off a Maxime Gratchev shot and backhanding it in from the left circle to make it 1-0.
Dustin Gazley backhanded in his first professional goal 51 seconds into the middle frame, taking a puck off an Evan Barlow shot and sending it past Titans goaltender Brad Phillips to put Elmira up 2-0.
The Jackals extended their advantage to 3-0 at 11:14 of the second. Demkov's shot from the left circle was stopped by Phillips, but Gratchev drove in the rebound from the slot to give Elmira the three-goal lead.
Peter Lenes broke into the Elmira zone and blasted a puck over the glove of Jackals goaltender Marco Cousineau, making his 2011-2012 debut, to cut Elmira's lead to 3-1 at 18:52 of the second.
Lenes knocked in a loose puck from the slot early in the third period to bring the Titans to within a goal at 2:09, 3-2.
Blair Yaworski tied the game moments later, driving in a puck from the left wing boards to make it 3-3 at 5:13.
Trenton took its first and only lead of the game when Ryan Hayes, in his first game as a Titan since being signed early in the week, fired the puck past Cousineau's stick from the left side at 6:38 to put Trenton up 4-3.
The Titans held off the Jackals the rest of the way, as Trenton snapped its four-game losing skid with the win.
Cousineau fell to 0-1-0-0 on the season with 24 saves. Phillips earned his first ECHL victory, making 32 saves.
The Jackals return home on Saturday to host the Kalamazoo Wings at 7:35 p.m. To reserve your seats call (607) 734-PUCK (7825), visit the First Arena Box Office, or log onto JackalsHockey.com.
