February 16, 2011 - ECHL (ECHL)
Elmira Jackals News Release
Elmira, N.Y. - The Elmira Jackals (21-21-6-1) could not overcome two third-period goals by the Trenton Devils (19-27-1-3) on Wednesday night at First Arena, falling 5-4 in their first February home game of the season. The Jackals and the Devils meet on Friday at First Arena and on Saturday at the Sun National Bank Center.
Ryan Ginand scored the first of his two opening-frame goals from the slot on a feed from Dan Charleston at 1:30.
Eric Lampe bounced a shot from the left-wing boards past Devils netminder Shane Connelly at 3:27 to tie the game, 1-1.
A Charleston shot from the left side was tipped past Jackals goaltender Garrett Zemlak by Ginand to put Trenton in front, 2-1, just 17 seconds later.
Matt Lombardi banked a puck into the net off of Zemlak's back from behind the goal at 1:35 of the second period, extending Trenton's lead to 3-1. Lombardi was pulled from the game in favor of Marco Cousineau, who was reassigned to the Jackals by the Anaheim Ducks from the Syracuse Crunch today.
Lampe tipped in a feed on the doorstep from Yannick Tifu to make it 3-2 at 15:24 of the second.
Michael Dubuc tied the game on a wrist shot from the left circle on the power play at 16:37, extending Elmira's power-play goal-scoring streak to eight games.
In the third period, however, a goal by Matt Vokes nine seconds into Trenton's only power play at 2:31 put the Devils in front for good, 4-3.
Lombardi added to the lead by driving in a drop pass from Darcy Zajac at 8:58, 5-3.
Lampe recorded the first hat trick of his career by backhanding a puck in on a partial breakaway at 17:53 to bring Elmira to within a goal, 5-4.
The Jackals could not catch up to the Devils though with a couple of late opportunities, falling by a goal.
Cousineau fell to 12-9-4-0 this season, stopping 20 of 22 shots, while Connelly earned his first win ever against the Jackals, improving to 7-13-2-1 by making 28 saves.
The Jackals host the Devils on Friday at First Arena at 7:35 p.m. For tickets call (607) 734-PUCK (7825), visit the First Arena Box Office, or log onto the new JackalsHockey.com.
