
Salmon Kings' Sauve Makes NHL Debut with Canucks

Victoria, BC - The Victoria Salmon Kings, proud affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks and Manitoba Moose, announced today that former Salmon Kings' defenseman Yann Sauve made his debut with the Vancouver Canucks in a National Hockey League (NHL) game last night.
The second round pick of the Canucks (#41 overall) in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, made his debut with the team in Minnesota after being recalled by Vancouver yesterday. Sauve finished the night with no points or penalty minutes and 12:16 of ice time. Sauve is the first player in Salmon Kings' history to begin his career in Victoria and then progress through the affiliation chain before suiting up for the Canucks.
The Montreal, PQ native made his professional debut with Salmon Kings on November 26, 2011 versus the Idaho Steelheads. In total Suave appeared in eight games with Victoria where he recorded two assists and four minutes in penalties. After being recalled to the American Hockey League (AHL) on December 6th, the defenseman played in 20 games with the Manitoba Moose notching three assists and eight penalty minutes.
The 6-3, 220 lb. Sauve spent a four-year junior career with the Saint John Sea Dogs of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL). He finished his time in Saint John with 20 goals and 82 assists for 102 points in 251 games while accumulating 296 minutes in penalties. He also dressed for 39 career QMJHL Playoff games with the Sea Dogs notching 20 points (6g-14a) and 67 penalty minutes. Sauve also participated in the 2006 QMJHL All-Star Game representing Saint John.
Sauve is the also the second former Salmon Kings' player to participate in an NHL game following his time in Victoria, after defenseman Shaun Heshka made his debut with the Phoenix Coyotes on November 7th, 2009. Heshka appeared in three games in Victoria during the 2006-07 season.
The Salmon Kings finish their six-game road trip this weekend with three games in three nights versus the Stockton Thunder. Contests are Friday, February 18th, Saturday, February 19th and Sunday, February 20th.
