Elmira Jackals News Release
Reading, Pa. - The Elmira Jackals (13-7-5-0) experienced their first shutout loss of the season on Sunday at the Sovereign Center, falling 5-0 to the Reading Royals (15-8-0-0).
John Scrymgeour took advantage of a Jackals turnover at 7:29 of the first period, taking the puck, skating into the left circle and wristing the puck into the net for his first career goal to put the Royals up 1-0.
Matt Caruana, stationed in the slot, redirected a Todd Perry blue-line shot past Elmira goaltender Daren Machesney at 11:18 of the first to extend the lead to 2-0.
Dallas Jackson's left goal line shot at 12:37 of the first on the power play found the net to improve Reading's advantage to 3-0. The goal was the first for Jackson as a pro.
Jared Ross fed Yannick Riendeau on a breakaway at 8:43 of the second period, and Riendeau's deke beat Machesney to make it 4-0.
Ben Gordon capped the scoring with a wrist shot from the right circle that beat Machesney high, stick side, giving Reading a 5-0 advantage at 14:21 of the final period.
Matt Dalton's 27-save effort gave him his second shutout of the season. Machesney stopped 22 shots, falling to 1-1-0-0 with the Jackals.
Elmira is back at home for games on Friday and Saturday against the Trenton Devils and the Toledo Walleye, with both contests starting at 7:35 p.m. For tickets, call (607) 734-PUCK (7825), visit the First Arena Box Office, or log onto JackalsHockey.com.
