Nailers Pull Even With Cyclones Atop North Division Standings

The Wheeling Nailers moved into a tie for first place in the North Division with a pair of wins over Gwinnett last weekend to extend their winning streak to four games.

Wheeling opened the weekend with a 7-2 win on Friday. Ben Street (2g-2a) and Nick Petersen (0g-4a) each had four-point games while Doug Rogers (1g-2a) chipped in with three points. Patrick Killeen recorded his league-leading 11th win with 28 saves.

The Nailers picked up where they left off on Saturday with an 8-3 win over the Gladiators. Jason DeSantis (0g-3a) and Kris Vernarsky (1g-2a) had three-point nights for Wheeling and Ryan Schnell added a pair of goals. Mattais Modig earned the win in net turning aside 32 shots.

Street leads the Nailers, and is tied for second among ECHL rookies, with 22 points (8g-14a), while fellow rookie Petersen is second on the squad, and tied for sixth among first-year players, with 18 points (8g-10a).

Wheeling has a busy week ahead with four games in five days beginning on Wednesday in Kalamazoo. The Nailers then head to Cincinnati for a showdown with the North Division co-leading Cyclones on Friday and Saturday before returning home to host Reading on Sunday.

Wranglers Keep Rolling With 3-0-0 Week

Las Vegas won all three of its games last week to run its unbeaten streak to eight games (7-0-1) and improve its overall record to 13-4-2 for 28 points and first-place tie with Stockton in the Pacific Division. The Wranglers own the league's second-best winning percentage at .737.

The Wranglers opened last week with a 7-3 win at Ontario on Wednesday. Barry Goers led the way for Las Vegas with three points (1g-2a) while Tyler Mosienko added a pair of goals. Special teams keyed the victory for the Wranglers as they scored three times on six power-play chances while blanking the Reign on their five man-advantage opportunities. Las Vegas limited Ontario to just 15 shots on goal.

Las Vegas returned home on Friday for the first time since Nov. 13 and recorded a 4-1 win over Idaho. Mosienko tallied two goals and added an assist and Ryan Huddy scored once while chipping in with two assists. For the second straight game, the Wranglers held their opponent to 15 shots on goal.

The week ended for the Wranglers with a 6-3 win over Idaho on Saturday. Mosienko's hot streak continued with another three-point game (1g-2a) while Goers (0g-2a), Huddy (1g-1a) and Jamie Bates (1g-1a) each contributed two points. Michael Ouzas improved to 9-1-1 on the season with 19 saves in goal.

Ouzas leads the ECHL with a 1.88 goals-against average, is tied for third with nine wins and is fourth with a .929 save percentage. The Wranglers possess a balanced offensive attack as no Las Vegas players rank in the top 57 in the league in scoring. Mosienko leads the way for the Wranglers with 17 points (6g-11a) while Huddy (9g-6a) and Ned Lukacevic (7g-8a) are tied for second on the squad with 15 points each.

The Wranglers head to Utah for games against the Grizzlies on Wednesday and Friday before returning home to face Idaho on Saturday and Sunday.

· Jeff Prough scored two power-play goals Saturday, increasing his total to four this season.

· Trenton travels to Elmira on Friday and hosts Toledo on Sunday.

North Division

Cincinnati Cyclones

· The Cyclones are 9-2-2 when allowing three goals or less.

· Mathieu Aubin leads the team with 21 points (7g- 14a).

· The Cyclones host Reading on Wednesday and Wheeling on Friday and Saturday.

Kalamazoo Wings

· Trent Daavettila is on a nine-game point streak (4g- 9a).

· Justin Taylor has scored a point in eight of his nine games since joining the club.

· Kalamazoo hosts Wheeling on Wednesday and Reading on Friday and Saturday.

Toledo Walleye

· The Walleye are 3-1-1 in their last five games.

· Andy Bohmbach leads the team with 11 goals.

· Toledo is at Elmira on Saturday and Trenton on Sunday.

Wheeling Nailers

· The Nailers are currently on a four-game winning streak.

· Ben Street has 10 points in his last four games (4g- 6a).

· Wheeling is at Kalamazoo on Wednesday and Cincinnati on Friday and Saturday and hosts Reading on Sunday.

South Division

Florida Everblades

· The Everblades are second in the league on the penalty kill at 87.6% (106-for-121).

· Mitch Fadden has a point in nine of the last 10 games (2g-15a).

· Florida is at Greenville on Wednesday and at South Carolina on Friday and Sunday.

Greenville Road Warriors

· The Road Warriors are 5-2-1 when opponents score first.

· Dov Grumet-Morris has given up two goals or less in each of his last seven starts.
