Atlanta Gladiators News Release
Five-Straight: The Gladiators have dropped five straight games, and are now sixth in the Eastern Conference with 28 points (12-9-4).
Be Like Mike: Rookie forward Michael Davies returned to the Gladiators after missing 13 games due to a call up to Chicago (AHL). Davies wasted no time making his presence felt, scoring a powerplay goal in Friday's game against Wheeling.
Top Rookies: Rookie Forwards Aaron Bendickson and Dan Kissel are 12th and 14th respectively in the league in points among rookies. Bendickson has 15 points (four goals, 11 assists) in 16 games (he missed seven games after being called up to Rochester), while Kissel has seven goals and six assists in 22 games.
On the Power Play: Gwinnett's powerplay seems to be back on track, going 2-for-9 this past weekend in Wheeling. Gwinnett ranks 6th in the league on the man advantage, converting 19.4% of their chances while forward Michael Forney is 5th in the league with nine powerplay assists.
Team Leader: Michael Forney leads the Gladiators with 19 points (five goals, 14 assists) in 21 games this season. 11 of those 19 points have come on the powerplay (2 G, 9 A). Forwards Derek Nesbitt and Ryan Garbutt, who were both called up to the AHL in mid-November, still rank 2nd and 3rd on the team in scoring.
Paq-Man Packs a Punch: Rookie forward and Thrashers prospect Danick Paquette is 7th in the ECHL in penalty minutes (76), and leads rookies in that category. He also scored his fifth goal of the season Friday against the Nailers.
A Full 60 Minutes: The score after the first two periods has been crucial for the Gladiators this season. Gwinnett is a perfect 9-0-0-0 this season when leading after two periods of play but the Gladiators are 0-7-0-3 when trailing after two periods of play this season.
Rough Weekend: The Gladiators were outscored in their two games this past weekend against Wheeling 15-5, and have been outscored by the opposition 31-9 during their five-game losing streak.
