Isotopes Win Sixth Straight
June 18, 2013 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Albuquerque Isotopes News Release
PAPILLION, Neb. -- Matt Palmer allowed one run in seven innings, and Chili Buss broke a 1-1 tie with a two-run triple in the seventh inning to lead the Albuquerque Isotopes to a 4-1 victory over the Omaha Storm Chasers at Werner Park.
The Isotopes (40-32) won their sixth in a row and are a season-high eight games over .500 for the year.
Palmer (3-3) faced the minimum through three innings, allowed six hits and two walks while tying a season high with seven innings worked, and struck out five.
Anthony Ortega pitched a scoreless eighth, and Steve Ames recorded his sixth save with a scoreless ninth inning.
The Topes didn't have a hit off Chris Dwyer, until Brian Barden homered on the 11th pitch of his at-bat to start the fifth inning. Omaha's Christian Colon singled home a run in the sixth inning to tie the score.
In the seventh, Matt Angle laid down a bunt single and Barden walked. Buss failed to get a bunt down to advance the runners, then hit a 3-2 pitch down the right-field line for a two-run triple.
Two batters later, on what appeared to be a busted squeeze attempt, Elevys Gonzalez missed the bunt, and Omaha catcher Brett Hayes' throw to third sailed into left field, allowing Buss to score.
The Topes and Storm Chasers will play a double header Wednesday to makeup a postponed game from April 18. Albuquerque's Matt Magill will face Brian Sanches in the first game, which starts at 11:05 am Mountain Time. Sean White starts for the Topes against Everett Teaford in the second game, which will start approximately 30 minutes after the first game ends.
Both games can be heard on 1050 KTBL with Josh Suchon on the call.
