Round Rock Express News Release

ROUND ROCK, Texas - The Texas Rangers have recalled left-hander Joseph Ortiz and catcher Robinson Chirinos to Arlington and have optioned first baseman Chris McGuiness to Triple-A Round Rock.

Ortiz pitched in four games with the Express, compiling a 1-0 record with a 2.35 ERA. The southpaw earned his first win with Round Rock in his last outing, pitching 2.0 scoreless innings in relief at Oklahoma City on June 16. He allowed runs in his first two outings, but blanked opponents over his final two appearances at the Triple-A level (4.0 innings). The left-hander began the season with the Rangers before being optioned to Round Rock on June 5.

Chirinos makes his second trip to the big leagues in 2013 after being previously recalled on May 10. Over his two stints with the Express, the backstop was batting .290 with five homers and 25 RBI. He hit .250 in his three previous games with the Rangers, making three starts at catcher before being optioned back to the Express on May 21.

First baseman Chris McGuiness returns to Round Rock as the corresponding move after batting .176 with one RBI in 10 games with the Rangers. He made 10 starts at first base in his first major league action of his career, but had collected seven strikeouts over his last four games with Texas. At the time of his contract purchase (June 6), McGuiness was batting .275 with six homers and 34 RBI in 55 games with the Express.

With this move, the Express' roster sits at 24 active, one under the Pacific Coast League limit.
