June 18, 2013 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Oklahoma City Comets News Release

Today's Game: After a 3-5 homestand, the RedHawks hit the road and begin a four-game series in New Orleans tonight at 7 p.m. It's the first time they've visited Zephyr Field this season.

Last Game: Round Rock scored four runs in the first inning and went on to lead 12-0 before an eventual 12-2 win Monday at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. The Express jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning, during which RedHawks pitcher Brett Oberholtzer (4-6) issued four straight walks. He exited before the inning ended. Round Rock also put up six in the third and cruised the rest of the way. Marc Krauss and Jake Elmore each had two hits for the RedHawks. Fernando Martinez put the RedHawks on the board with a RBI groundout in the seventh, and Jose Martinez hit a RBI single in the bottom of the ninth.

Today's Probable Pitcher: Brad Peacock looks to follow up his outstanding start on Thursday against Iowa. He retired the first 15 hitters he faced before relenting one run and two hits in the sixth inning. Peacock struck out four, did not walk a batter, and left with a 6-1 lead. However, he did not walk away with a win after Iowa came back and eventually tied the game 8-8 in the ninth...Peacock has split time this season between the RedHawks and the Astros. In five starts with OKC, Peacock is holding PCL opponents to a .196 average. He has allowed four or less hits in each of his last four starts...Peacock has struck out 31 batters in 27.2 innings and has two games with eight or more punchouts...In his one previous career meeting with the Zephyrs, Peacock notched a win after allowing one run and four hits with seven strikeouts over six innings in a game in New Orleans on Aug. 16, 2012.

Against the Zephyrs: 2013: 3-1 2012: 8-8 All-time: 124-113 In NEW: 55-63

The RedHawks won the first series between the teams by taking three of four in Oklahoma City, April 25-28. New Orleans won the series opener in 15 innings before the RedHawks won the final three straight. The 4-four, 54-minute game between the teams April 25 is the longest of the season for the RedHawks. OKC scored five runs in the bottom of the ninth to force extra innings...OKC hit .306 against the Zephyrs in their previous series, led by eight hits and six RBI from Jonathan Villar. OKC pitching held New Orleans to .222 hitting in the series...The RedHawks last played in New Orleans July 4-8, 2012, winning the series, 3-2...The Zephyrs homered 27 times against Oklahoma City last season, marking the most home runs given up by the RedHawks to a PCL team in 2012.

Down a Deuce: With yesterday's loss, the RedHawks are two games behind Round Rock for the top spot in the American Southern Division. It's the farthest they've been out of first place all season.

Maxed Out: Astros outfielder Justin Maxwell has completed his rehab assignment after spending five games with the RedHawks. He went 4-for-18 with a home run, three RBI, and scored five runs.

Valiant Villar: Jonathan Villar has hit safely in 11 of 14 games in June and leads the team with a .346 average this month. On Sunday he recorded his first multi-homer game of his career and became the first RedHawk to homer from both sides of the plate since Jason Botts did it against Nashville on April 24, 2006. Villar has impressively cut down on his strikeouts of late. Through the first two months of the season he struck out in 26% of his plate appearances. In June he's only struck out eight times in 61 plate appearances (13%).

Booming Brett: Brett Wallace is batting .406 (12x38) during his current eight-game hitting streak--tied for his season best. Wallace leads the RedHawks with a .319 batting average and 10 home runs. He is tied with Marc Krauss for the team lead in RBI (35).

Elmore, More, More: Jake Elmore has hit safely in each of his last six games, batting .391 (9x23) with three multi-hit efforts. It's his longest streak since hitting safely in 12 straight, April 5-18.

Doubleton: Jon Singleton is 3-for-8 through two games, with all three hits going for doubles. After missing the first 50 games due to a suspension, Singleton made his way to Oklahoma City with stops in Low-A Quad Cities and Double-A Corpus Christi. He homered in each of his first three games this season and between the two levels he hit .271 with five home runs and 13 RBI over 17 games.

Dinger Details: Neither team went yard in yesterday's game, snapping a season-high eight-game streak in which the RedHawks had allowed a home run. The nine homers they surrendered during the Round Rock series was the most allowed in one series since Memphis blasted 10 at AutoZone Park, July 20-23, 2012. Since the Astros affiliation began in 2011, it's the most homers an opponent has hit in one series in Oklahoma City...On the other hand, the RedHawks set a season high with four home runs in Sunday's game, marking the first time the team had belted four homers in a game since June 27, 2012 at Iowa and the first time at home since May 15, 2012 against Tucson. The RedHawks (50) and Zephyrs (37) have the two lowest home run totals in the PCL.

Crooked Numbers: Over the last nine games, the pitching staff has allowed at least four runs each game and at least seven runs six times. The team ERA during this stretch is 6.94 and opponents have scored at least four runs in an inning six times. After posting the league's second-best ERA in May (3.59), their 6.01 ERA this month ranks last.

Linsanity: Che-Hsuan Lin did not make a single plate appearance last series, but he pitched twice, retiring all five batters he faced between games on Friday and Monday. He had never previously pitched in a game since his professional career began in 2007.

Opening Acts: The RedHawks are 6-12 this season in series openers (3-7 road) and have lost each of the last three.
