New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release
Brad Peacock pitched 6 1/3 scoreless innings, leading the Oklahoma City RedHawks to a 3-1 win over the New Orleans Zephyrs on Tuesday night in the opener of a four-game series at Zephyr Field.
Peacock (2-2) struck out five and walked one in limiting the Zephyrs to six hits. New Orleans put just two runners in scoring position against Peacock. Kevin Mattison drew a two-out walk in the third inning and stole second base, but was stranded when Donovan Solano flied out to shallow right. Solano singled with one out in the sixth inning and advanced to second on a passed ball, but Peacock retired Bryan Petersen on a fly ball and got Nick Green to foul out to keep the game scoreless.
Brian Flynn matched Peacock inning for scoreless inning for much of the night, retiring 12 of the first 14 batters he faced. Flynn escaped trouble in the fifth when Robbie Grossman lined into a double play with runners at first and second and one out.
The RedHawks finally broke through in the seventh. Leadoff hitter Brandon Laird reached on a slow roller up the third base line and Marc Krauss laced a single to right. Carlos Perez then laid down a sacrifice bunt, and catcher Kyle Skipworth's throw sailed down the right field line to allow Laird to score the game's first run.
Che-Hsuan Lin then singled through the hole at shortstop to score Krauss and end Flynn's night. Jonathan Albaladejo came on to induce a double play grounder which plated Perez with the third run of the inning.
The Zephyrs got on the board in the ninth against RedHawks stopper Josh Zeid . Bryan Petersen led off with a double down the left field line and scored on a single by Nick Green. With two outs, Gil Velazquez reached on a bunt single, and a throwing error by Perez advanced both runners into scoring position, but Zeid struck out Skipworth for the final out to preserve his fourth save.
Flynn (2-7) was the hard-luck loser for New Orleans, allowing three unearned runs and five hits in six innings. Flynn has dropped each of his last three starts, and five of his last six decisions.
The Z's and RedHawks continue the series on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
