Round Rock Express News Release

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - After 12 runs through the first four innings, the Round Rock Express (40-32) cruised to a 12-2 victory in the series finale against the Oklahoma City RedHawks (36-32) Monday night.

Round Rock started the evening scoring four runs in the first inning on just two hits as Oklahoma City starter Brett Oberholtzer issued four walks throughout the frame. After reaching on an error and moving to third on a single off the bat of right fielder Joey Butler, shortstop Leury Garcia crossed the plate for the first Express run on a wild pitch. Second baseman Yangervis Solarte followed by knocking in Butler on a RBI double to give the E-Train a 2-0 edge.

The Express offense was far from finished as Round Rock loaded the bases on two straight walks before Oberholtzer issued free passes to left fielder Aaron Cunningham and first baseman Mike Bianucci to force in two more runs. The RedHawk southpaw failed to complete the first inning as he was lifted after recording just one out. Reliever Alex Sogard entered the game and retired the side on a double play to finally bring the inning to a close but the damage was done as the E-Train hung a four-spot in the opening frame.

With a four-run cushion before stepping on the mound, southpaw Martin Perez went to work, holding the RedHawks to three hits over the first two innings before tossing four straight hitless frames. Perez made quick work of Oklahoma City, turning in three 1-2-3 innings en route to his fifth straight quality start and victory.

The Round Rock offense went back to work in the third, plating six more runs on five hits as the lead grew to double figures. After loading the bases again with one out, designated hitter Jose Felix singled in third baseman Mike Olt before Garcia added a two-run single of his own. Center fielder Engel Beltre kept the inning alive with a two-run triple while right fielder Joey Butler capped the scoring with a RBI single.

The Express tacked on two more runs in the fourth on another RBI single by Felix and a RBI double from Garcia.

Each Express starter recorded a hit while seven different E-Train members registered RBI. Although Round Rock put up 12 runs on 14 hits, the offense collected just four extra-base hits without leaving the yard.

After turning the game over to the bullpen to start the seventh, the Express cruised over the final three innings, allowing two runs but sealing a series victory. Right-handers Jake Brigham and Lisalverto Bonilla each allowed a run in their inning of relief but closed out the game to preserve the win.

Perez (5-1) picked up the victory, while Oberholtzer (4-6) suffered the loss after being tagged with four runs in just 0.1 inning.

The Express returns home to open a four-game set against the Memphis Redbirds Tuesday night at Dell Diamond. Round Rock will send right-hander Evan Meek (0-3, 4.91 ERA) to the mound to face Mitchell Boggs (0-2, 4.73 ERA). Tuesday night will also be Turn Back Tuesday at Dell Diamond, featuring the 1959 Austin Senators jerseys as well as half price tickets, presented by Cedar Park Premier Dentistry.
