Peacock Pushes RedHawks Past New Orleans, 3-1

Metairie, La. - The Oklahoma City RedHawks used 6.1 scoreless innings from starting pitcher Brad Peacock and a three-run rally in the seventh inning to defeat the New Orleans Zephyrs 3-1 before 2,286 at Zephyr Field Tuesday night.

Peacock (2-2) scattered six singles in what was his longest start of the season. He struck out five and walked just one in earning his second win with the RedHawks. Most impressively, Peacock held the Zephyrs to 0-for-11 with runners on base.

Since returning to the RedHawks on June 12, Peacock has allowed one run and eight hits in two starts, spanning 12.1 innings.

The game was mostly a pitcher's duel between Peacock and New Orleans' Brian Flynn. Neither team scored or even threatened to do much at the plate through the first six innings. Both the RedHawks and the Zephyrs each only had two runners reach scoring position, but no one advanced as far as third base.

The RedHawks (37-32) were able to score the game's first runs in the seventh. With runners at first and second and one out, Carlos Perez laid down a sac but and New Orleans catcher Kyle Skipworth's throw to first base went into right field. The poor throw allowed Brandon Laird to score and put runners at second and third with none out.

Che-Hsuan Lin stepped up next and delivered an RBI single and the final run of the inning scored on a double play to make it 3-0.

The Oklahoma City pitching staff kept rolling, as Peacock and Eric Berger kept the Zephyrs (36-37) scoreless over the seventh and eighth innings.

The RedHawks called on reliever Josh Zeid to close the game in the ninth. Three pitches into the inning, the Zephyrs were on the board. Bryan Petersen doubled, and Nick Green followed with an RBI single.

The run halted a streak of 13 consecutive scoreless innings tossed by the RedHawks pitching staff.

With Green at first base and now two outs, Gil Velazquez put down bunt single. Perez committed a throwing error on the play, putting the tying runs in scoring position.

Zeid worked around the miscue and struck out Skipworth to end the game and earn his fourth save in as many opportunities.

The RedHawks win also resulted in a tough-luck loss for Flynn. The lefty went six-plus and all three runs he allowed were unearned. Flynn (2-7) gave up five hits (all singles), one walk, and struck out four.
