Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
YESTERDAY'S LOSS: Chris Rusin tossed a complete-game five-hitter as Iowa blanked Omaha, 2-0, Monday afternoon in the last of four meetings at Principal Park. The Storm Chasers dropped three of four in the series to slip to 30-38 but remain at three games back in the division as the first place Redbirds lost their fifth consecutive game. Iowa has now taken five of eight contests from Omaha this season.
LAST SHUTOUT VS CHASERS: Chris Rusin's five-hit nine-inning shutout was the first shutout tossed against the Storm Chasers since Albuquerque's Dana Eveland turned the trick at Werner Park on July 28, 2011 while allowing three hits to Omaha.
STRANGE SERIES SO FAR: Omaha and Albuquerque have played seven games so far in 2013, and only one of the first seven has been a nine-inning game (two extra innings, four doubleheader games). Over the past three seasons, the Isotopes and Omaha had only seven non nine-inning games (2012: two extra-inning games; 2011: one extra inning game; 2010: two extra-inning games, two doubleheader games).
LEARNING WERNER: Storm Chasers left-hander Chris Dwyer has the lowest ERA among starters at home at 2.68, as he has allowed 12 earned runs in 40.1 innings at Werner Park (six starts). Last season in four starts at Werner, Dwyer allowed 21 earned runs in 18.1 innings, with an opponent batting average of .398 and only 12 strikeouts. This season, Dwyer has a .235 opponent batting average at home and 36 strikeouts.
SAY HAYES KID: Brett Hayes extended his on-base streak to 21 games with a third inning solo shot on Sunday, one of three on the roadtrip. It is the longest active streak in the PCL (tied for 12th longest overall) while also being the longest streak this season for a Storm Chaser (Anthony Seratelli had a 20-game streak from May 10 to June 1). The last game Hayes did not reach base was May 8 at Reno. Last season the longest streak for Omaha was Clint Robinson's 24-gamer from May 6 to May 31.
SUB-.500 DIVISION: All four teams in the American Conference Northern have losing records, the only division in Minor League Baseball without a team with at least a .500 record (Texas League North, the division the Royals AA affiliate Northwest Arkansas plays in, is the only other division in MiLB without a winning record team as the Tulsa Drillers lead that division with a 34-34 record). Last year the American Northern was the only Triple-A division with only one team with a winning record.
