Struggling Storm Chasers Fall 4-1 to Isotopes

Omaha Storm Chasers News Release

OMAHA, Neb. - The Omaha Storm Chasers (30-39) dropped the series opener to the Albuquerque Isotopes (40-32) by a score of 4-1, and with the loss fell to a season-high nine games under .500. It was Omaha's sixth loss in the last eight games, as well as the third consecutive game they have been held to three runs or less.

Left-hander Chris Dwyer posted his team-high ninth quality start of the season, tying a career high in any professional year for the southpaw already, but his four runs and three earned were enough to suffer his fifth loss of the year. Dwyer did not allow a hit in his first four innings, but the fifth inning was led off by third baseman Brian Barden launching a solo homer for the first run of the night. After the Chasers tied the score 1-1 in the sixth, Dwyer returned in the seventh but did not record an out while allowing the game-deciding hit on a two-run triple by leftfielder Chili Buss.

The Storm Chasers scored their lone run of the game on a RBI single by second baseman Christian Colon for his 26th run batted in of the season, fourth most on the team. The run snapped a 19.2 inning scoreless streak, and with the one-run performance the Chasers have scored four total runs in their last three games.

During the loss, catcher Brett Hayes went 0-for-3 with no walks to see his 21-game on-base streak snapped, which was the longest active streak in the Pacific Coast League. The streak was the longest on-base stretch for a Storm Chasers batter this season, and Hayes was the second player to have a 20-game streak for Omaha (Anthony Seratelli's 20-game streak from May 10 to June 1).

The Storm Chasers and Isotopes will lock up for a doubleheader tomorrow afternoon, the fifth doubleheader of the season for Omaha and the third doubleheader already this season between Omaha and Albuquerque. The first game will feature the pitching matchup of right-hander Brian Sanches (3-1, 4.10) against right-hander Matt Magill (2-0, 2.40), while the second game pits left-hander Everett Teaford (2-2, 2.92) against right-hander Sean White (2-4, 3.82).
