Albuquerque Isotopes News Release
NEED TO KNOW: A three-run eighth inning capped off by a go-ahead home run from Albuquerque's own Brian Cavazos-Galvez vaulted the Albuquerque Isotopes (45-53) to series-clinching 6-5 victory against the division-leading Las Vegas 51s (56-42) Saturday night at Cashman Field in Las Vegas, NV.
CRITICAL MOMENT: The Isotopes played from behind most of the game after falling behind 2-0 in the first inning. The Topes managed to tie it at two in the third and at three in the fifth, but Las Vegas was the one with a 5-3 lead headed into the eighthinning. Albuquerque's luck began to change when Jamie Romak led off the inning with a home run. Brock Peterson followed with a single and Mike Baxter walked. A double play seemed to squash the rally, but a wild pitch would score Peterson to tie the game. On the very next pitch, Albuquerque native Brian Cavazos-Galvez smashed a go-ahead home run to put the Topes up 6-5 in the eighth inning.
HOMETOWN HERO: Former University of New Mexico Lobo and Albuquerque native Brian Cavazos-Galvez has become the go-to clutch hitter for Albuquerque since rejoining the Isotopes on June 26. His pinch-hit go-ahead home run in the eighth inning propelled the Topes to their series-clinching win Saturday night. It is the first pinch-hit homer by an Isotope this season. Since his return to the Duke City, he is batting .368 (14-for-38) with seven runs scored, two doubles, two homers and 10 RBI. He also has a walk-off home run and walk-off double.
RAKING ROMAK: Jamie Romak got the Isotopes eighth-inning rally started with a leadoff home run. Since the Dodgers outrighted him back to Albuquerque on June 25, Romak has four home runs, three doubles and 17 RBI in 14 games.
PEDERSON OR PETERSON: Brock Peterson and Joc Pederson have been pivotal sticks in the Albuquerque lineup. Peterson was 1-for-2 with a run scored and two walks Saturday night. In 13 games with the Topes this year, he is now batting .372 (16-for-43) with four doubles, two homers and eight RBI. Pederson just rejoined Albuquerque from the disabled list on Thursday. He was 2-for-4 with a double and a walk Saturday. Pederson is now 7-for-17 with a triple, two doubles, three runs scored, an RBI and five walks since his return. Pederson was elected to the PCL squad for the 2014 Triple-A All-Star Game on July 16 at Durham Bulls Athletic Park in Durham, NC. Pitching Coach Glenn Dishman will also serve on the PCL's field staff.
ON DECK: The Isotopes will now enjoy a four-day All-Star Break from July 13-16 before returning home on July 17 to face the Sacramento River Cats.
