Colorado Springs Sky Sox News Release
Behind four hit days from both 1B Matt Fields and former Sky Sox SS Paul Janish, the Omaha Storm Chasers (51-45) won the series finale Sunday afternoon, 7-1, against the Colorado Springs Sky Sox (42-54), who have lost three straight as they head into the three-day All-Star Break.
Fields fell a triple shy of the cycle, but helped get Omaha off a to a quick 2-0 lead with his RBI-double to left in the first inning.
He followed that up with a single in his second and fourth at-bats, while he smacked a two-run home run, his 18th of the year, in the fourth to give the Storm Chasers a 6-1 lead.
Omaha added one more in the fifth off RHP Brett Tomko (2-2) before the Sky Sox bullpen took over to toss four and a third of shutout baseball, but the Sky Sox offense couldn't produce any runs outside of an RBI-double from Drew Garcia in the third inning.
The Sky Sox did put runners on in the final three innings thanks to Jason Pridie's triple in the seventh, Jackson Williams' single in the eighth, and Parker's double in the ninth, but couldn't capitalize.
In his second relief appearance of the season, LHP Christian Friedrich tossed scoreless baseball for 1.1 innings, allowing just a hit and a walk, while striking out two runs.
RHP Rob Scahill tossed two scoreless innings and picked up two strikeouts as well, while RHP Greg Burke and RHP Leuris Gomez combined for a scoreless ninth inning.
For the Storm Chasers, LHP Joe Saunders made the start and allowed just one run in three innings of work. LHP Tim Collins (2-1) picked up the win after tossing three perfect innings of relief. RHP Aaron Brooks also threw three scoreless innings, but allowed the single, double and triple.
