Chasers and Sky Sox Suspended

July 13, 2014 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Omaha Storm Chasers News Release

Colorado Springs, CO - Saturday night's game between Omaha and Colorado Springs was suspended in the fourth inning due to rain and subsequent unplayable field conditions. The two teams waited 50 minutes after the game was delayed before it was ultimately called off with the Storm Chasers on top, 4-0, and outhitting the hosts, 10-1. The contest will be resumed on Friday, August 8 starting at 6:05 pm central time and played to a nine-inning conclusion before that night's regular scheduled game, which will be shortened to seven frames.

The Chasers strung together four straight singles to begin the game but produced only one run, on a base hit by Matt Fields that drove in Whit Merrifield, as Christian Colon was picked off at first base and Paulo Orlando bounced into an inning-ending double play. The visitors had two hits in the third but could not score and finally broke through in the fourth on a two-run double from Brian Bocock and an RBI double by Merrifield to make it a 4-0 game. Colon then drew a walk before play was halted by the rain and the teams were removed from the diamond.

The series and "first half" of the season conclude Sunday afternoon with Omaha right-hander Aaron Brooks taking the mound against former Storm Chaser and current Sky Sox right-hander Brett Tomko. Coverage of the game gets underway at 2:15 pm and can be heard locally on 1180 Zone 2 The Deuce and online at omahastormchasers.com.
