Albuquerque Isotopes News Release
In an offensive onslaught, the Albuquerque Isotopes (60-58) equaled franchise records with 24 hits and four home runs in an inning as the ¬ËTopes crushed the Salt Lake Bees (54-64) 19-6 Tuesday night at Isotopes Park. Albuquerque scored in every inning but the third and the eighth while snapping a two-game losing streak.
The ¬ËTopes wasted no time jumping out to a quick lead on the Bees, as Jamie Hoffmann crushed a three-run homer in the bottom of the first to give the home team a quick 3-0 advantage.
After Salt Lake scored twice in the second to make the score 3-2, the Isotopes responded with three more in the bottom of the second. Joe Becker started the rally with a one-out double and quickly came in to score on a single by Brad Coon to give the Isotopes a 4-2 edge. Ivan De Jesus Jr. tacked on a single and Jay Gibbons walked, loading the bases for Jerry Sands, who flared a double down the right field line that plated two and boosted the Albuquerque advantage to 6-2.
Jeremy Moore added a solo homer in the fourth to make the score 6-3 before the Isotopes added to their advantage with two in the fourth and two more in the fifth on a two-run single by De Jesus to augment the Albuquerque lead to 10-3.
Tim Federowicz continued the offensive deluge with an RBI double in the sixth that made the score 11-3 before the ¬ËTopes put the Bees away in the seventh.
Salt Lake opened the inning with two runs but the Isotopes responded emphatically in the bottom of the seventh, scoring eight times. After Gibbons led off the inning with a double, Sands blasted a two-run homer to left giving the Isotopes a 13-5 lead. The very next batter, Hoffmann, then added a solo homer, his second big-fly of the game, to extend the lead to 14-5. A power outage in one of the light standards behind home plate caused a short, 15-minute delay, and when light was restored the Isotopes picked up right where they left off, with Justin Sellers adding a solo homer to left, giving Albuquerque back-to-back-to-back home runs. Still, the ¬ËTopes weren't finished, as A.J. Ellis drew a walk, followed by back-to-back singles by Federowicz and Becker that loaded the bases for De Jesus, who smashed a grand slam into the picnic pavilion in left field to give the Isotopes a commanding 19-5 lead. Hoffmann finished the night 5-for-5 with two homers and five RBI, while De Jesus added a season-high six RBI thanks to the first grand slam of his career.
The Bees would plate one more in the eighth to close the scoring, trimming the deficit to 19-6.
Albuquerque starter Mike Parisi (3-1) got the win, his third in a row at Isotopes Park after working a season-high seven innings, allowing five runs on seven hits while walking three and striking out three. Salt Lake starter Matt Palmer (7-10) suffered the loss.
The Isotopes will look to salvage a series split in the homestand finale on Wednesday with lefty Randy Keisler (6-6, 5.10) getting the start for the ¬ËTopes against Bees righty Eric Junge (6-9, 4.83). First pitch is 7:05 PM from Isotopes Park.
Albuquerque's big homestand wraps up on Wednesday with a final game against Salt Lake, Triple-A affiliate of the Los Angeles of Anaheim. It's the last time the two teams will face each other this season and the last time the Bees will visit the Duke City until 2013. Tickets for any Isotopes game may be purchased at the Isotopes Park Box Office, at Ticketmaster outlets, by phone at 1-800-745-3000, or on-line at www.albuquerquebaseball.com or www.ticketmaster.com.
