Colorado Springs Sky Sox News Release

The Colorado Springs Sky Sox dropped their third-straight game to the Memphis Redbirds 10-5 Tuesday night in front of 8,808 fans at Security Service Field.

The Redbirds continued to jump on Sky Sox starters early as Andrew Brown hit a first inning grand slam against Clayton Mortensen (1-7, 10.98) to give Memphis a 4-0 lead. The lead would balloon to 7-0 in the fourth as Mark Hamilton cleared the bases with a three-run double. Mortensen allowed seven runs on eight hits in 4.1 innings.

The Sox would get on the board in the fourth on a Scott Beerer sac fly and would tack on two more in the sixth on an Alan Johnson double and a Ryan Rohlinger single to cut the lead to 7-3.

The Redbirds would put the game away with two runs in the ninth as Tyler Greene hit his third solo home run in the last two games and Matt Carpenter singled in a run against reliever Eric Stults. Matt Macri would smack a solo home run in the ninth to cap the scoring for the Sox who fell to 53-65 with the loss.

Memphis starter Maikel Cleto (3-2, 4.01) picked up the win allowing a run on one hit in 5.0 innings while striking out six as the Redbirds improved to 60-57.

The Sox will look to avoid the sweep tomorrow as Greg Reynolds (5-5, 6.58) faces off against Brian Broderick (5-4, 5.08). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM MT.
