Reno Aces News Release
RENO, Nev.-Aces starter Zach Kroenke threw six shutout innings and left the game with a 7-0 lead, but Nashville touched-up the Reno bullpen for 10 runs in the seventh inning Wednesday afternoon on its way to a come-from-behind 11-9 victory in the series finale at Aces Ballpark.
Through the game's first six frames, Reno had plated seven runs, hit two home runs and saw its starter hold the Sounds scoreless. In the seventh, though, Nashville sent 14 men to the plate, pushing across 10 runs on six hits against three different Aces relief pitchers. Reno would push across a run in the seventh and ninth innings, but fell just short as the Sounds completed the series sweep.
Kroenke took a hard-luck no decision, scattering five hits over six scoreless frames. In the seventh, Esmerling Vasquez surrendered four runs in one-third of an inning, and Kam Mickolio (2-3) took the loss after allowing five runs without recording an out. Jeff Bennett allowed a run in 1.2 innings of work before Ryan Cook surrendered a run on three hits in the ninth.
Daniel Ray Herrera (1-0) earned the victory out of the Sounds bullpen, throwing 1.1 scoreless frames.
At the plate for Reno, Juan Miranda and Angel Berroa homered to put the Aces up early in the second inning. Mark Hallberg recorded three hits for the third-straight game.
After an off-day on Thursday, the Aces kick-off an eight-game road trip on Friday night, beginning with a four-game set against the New Orleans Zephyrs. In the opener, Reno will turn to RHP Gaby Hernandez (4-4, 6.67 ERA), while the Zephyrs will counter with RHP Tom Koehler (7-6, 5.19). First pitch is set for 5 p.m. PT, and all the action can be heard live on Fox Sports 630 AM or by visiting www.RenoAces.com.
The Aces return home on Saturday, Aug. 20 for a four-game series against Tacoma at Aces Ballpark. Tickets for all Aces games, including the 2011 Pacific Coast League playoffs, are available today at RenoAces.com, the Aces Ballpark box office or by phone at (775) 334-7000.
