Albuquerque Isotopes News Release
NEED TO KNOW: The Albuquerque Isotopes (55-71) split a Thursday night doubleheader at the Nashville Sounds (56-70), winning game one 6-0 and dropping game two 3-2. Right-hander Chad Bettis pitched five scoreless innings in game one, and seven different Isotopes had RBI on the day.
THE TURNING POINT, GAME ONE: Albuquerque used a five-run second inning to put game one of the doubleheader out of reach, and a rehabbing Chad Bettis shut down Nashville for five innings before turning it over to the bullpen. The Topes scoring started after back-to-back doubles from Wilin Rosario and Roger Bernadina. Trevor Story then capped the inning with a two-run triple. Bettis allowed just three hits in his five innings, while striking out seven against no walks.
THE TURNING POINT, GAME TWO: The Isotopes again jumped out to a quick lead in game two when Wilin Rosario singled in Trevor Story in the first. Albuquerque's offense fell cold though and produced just three more singles, all in the ninth to score a second run. The Sounds were held at bay until the bottom of the sixth when they loaded the bases with no outs. A walk, a single and a sacrifice fly plated a trio of runs, and gave Nashville the 3-2 lead and eventual win.
YOU BETTIS BELIVE IT: Making a Major League rehab start with the Isotopes, right-handed pitcher Chad Bettis turned in five shutout innings for Albuquerque. He scattered just three hits and struck out seven Nashville batters without allowing a walk.
HATS GIVEAWAY COMING UP: The first 3,000 fans to Sunday's 6:05 p.m. series-opener against Oklahoma City will receive a free hat courtesy of Coca-Cola. Sunday begins the Isotopes final homestand of the season against OKC and the Colorado Springs Sky Sox.
ON DECK: The Isotopes and Sounds will play game three of their four-game series Friday night at 6:05 p.m. MT. Right-handed pitcher Boone Whiting (3-7, 5.95 ERA) is scheduled to take the mound for Albuquerque, while right-hander Nathan Long (3-4, 5.73 ERA) is slated to start for Nashville.
IN THE HOLE: Following their eight-game road trip, the Isotopes will return home for their final eight-game homestand of the season against Oklahoma City and the Colorado Springs Sky Sox beginning August 23 at 6:05.
