Today's Game: The Oklahoma City Dodgers look to take a 2-0 lead in their series against the Reno Aces when the teams play again at 7:05 p.m. at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. Tonight is a $2 Thursday.
Last Game: Darwin Barney hit a three-run home run to left field in the bottom of the 15th inning to give the Dodgers an 8-5 win against Reno Wednesday at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. The Dodgers trailed, 5-2, entering the bottom of the ninth inning and scored three runs with two outs to tie the game. Scott Schebler pulled OKC within one with a two-run single, and Shawn Zarraga followed with a pinch-hit RBI single with the Dodgers down to their final strike. The Dodgers left the bases loaded in both the ninth and 10th innings, and stranded the winning run in scoring position in both the 11th and 12th innings. With none on and two out in the 15th, Austin Barnes and Kyle Jensen both singled before Barney ended the game for the team's 10th walk-off win of the season. Reno took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a two-run double by Peter O'Brien. The Dodgers quickly tied the game in the bottom of the frame on a RBI groundout by Andy Wilkins and a RBI single from Barnes. The Aces scored three times in the fourth to break the tie and go in front, 5-2. The Dodgers used eight different pitchers in the game, as they held Reno without a run over the final 11 innings. Reliever Ramon Troncoso (5-1) pitched a 1-2-3 15th inning to earn the win. Matt Reynolds (3-6) was charged with the loss.
Today's Probable Pitcher: Mike Bolsinger (2-2) squares off against his former team, looking to continue his strong season...On Saturday against Tacoma, Bolsinger held the Rainiers just one run and three hits over 7.0 innings, but ended up with a loss in OKC's 2-0 defeat. He kept Tacoma scoreless through six innings before surrendering a solo home run to Jabari Blash in the seventh. Bolsinger racked up nine strikeouts to tie his season high...Over his last two outings combined, Bolsinger has allowed one run and three hits with 14 strikeouts over 10.2 innings, and has only had one runner reaching scoring position...Tonight marks Bolsinger's fourth game back with OKC after he was optioned by the L.A. Dodgers on July 31. He's made 16 starts with L.A. this season, going 5-3 with a 2.83 ERA. In 13 of his 16 starts, Bolsinger held his opponent to two or fewer runs, with six quality starts...Bolsinger has a 1.93 ERA over seven games (six starts) with OKC this season and has 45 strikeouts over 32.2 innings. He's holding PCL hitters to a .189 average, including a .118 clip against lefties...Bolsinger appeared in 35 games (33 starts) with Reno between 2011-14. Last season, he posted an 8-3 record and 3.93 ERA over 17 appearances (16 GS).
Against the Aces: 2015: 1-0 2014: 3-1 All-time: 17-8 In OKC: 11-2
This marks the Dodgers' lone series of the season against the Aces...Oklahoma City won the 2014 series, 3-1, in Reno. They split the first two games before OKC won the final two meetings and outscored the Aces, 31-21, overall in the four-game set...Oklahoma City is 11-2 against the Aces in Bricktown overall and has won nine of the last 10 games at home...The Aces last visited OKC July 30-Aug. 2, 2013. The RedHawks swept the four-game series, which was part of the team's record-setting 17-game home winning streak. Each game was decided by one or two runs, with each of the last three decided by just one run...OKC has a 4-1-1 season series record against Reno since they started playing one another in 2009.
Ups and Downs: The Dodgers have won eight of their last 10 games, following a 14-game stretch where they lost four straight, won five straight, and then lost five straight...Omaha and Iowa each won Wednesday. Omaha trails first-place OKC by 6.5 games and Iowa sits seven games back in third place. The Dodgers' largest division lead was 11 games entering play on July 4, but they have gone 22-22 since. After their first-place lead was cut all the way down to three games, the Dodgers have added 3.5 games to their lead since Aug. 1...Fresno won for the 17th time in 18 games last night, and the Grizzlies' 76 wins are one more than the Dodgers for most in the PCL.
Wild Wednesday: The Dodgers earned their league-leading 10th walk-off win of the season Wednesday, and Darwin Barney became the ninth different player to collect a walk-off hit and/or RBI for OKC. It was also the team's second walk-off homer of the season (Scott Schebler vs. Memphis, June 18)... Wednesday marked the first time OKC played 15 innings since a 10-8 loss to New Orleans on April 25, 2013 in Bricktown. It also marked just the 10th time in the team's PCL era (since 1998) that a game extended beyond 14 innings. The game lasted 4 hours, 41 minutes, also marking the longest game time-wise for OKC since that April 25, 2013 game which lasted 4 hours, 54 minutes...The Dodgers improved to 6-4 in extra-inning games, and last night was the team's fifth win when trailing after eight innings -- tied for most the PCL with El Paso and Las Vegas.
Barney's Blast-Off: Darwin Barney's three-run homer with two outs in the bottom of the 15th inning marked the second walk-off homer of his career. He previously mashed a two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Chicago Cubs an 8-6 win against San Diego on May 30, 2012...Barney's three RBI also set a new season high.
Austin's Powers: Austin Barnes led all players Wednesday with a season-high five hits, going 5-for-8 with a RBI and a run scored. Three of Barnes' hits came in extra innings, as he collected the fourth five-hit game of his career and the first since Aug. 30, 2013 while with Double-A Jacksonville at Pensacola (5-for-7 in 16 innings). The only other OKC player this season with at least five hits in a game this season is Corey Seager, who went 6-for-6 on May 28 in Salt Lake.
Money on the Mound: Although the Dodgers allowed as many as five runs for the first time in 11 games, and as many as four runs for just the second time in 11 games, they kept the Aces scoreless over the final 11 innings last night. During the team's last 10 games, the Dodgers pitching staff has surrendered just 20 runs (1.86 ERA - 20 ER/97 IP) and held their opponent scoreless in 84 of 97 innings. They have not allowed their opponent to score in more than two innings in 11 straight games, and they've allowed two or fewer runs in seven of the last 10 contests. Opponents are batting .189 (63x334) with three home runs and have gone 12-for-64 (.188) with RISP.
Gone, But Not Forgotten: The Dodgers pulled out a dramatic win yesterday, but the team was dealt a big blow as PCL All-Star Darnell Sweeney was traded to Philadelphia by the L.A. Dodgers along with John Richy in exchange for Chase Utley. As the team's primary leadoff hitter, Sweeney led the team in hits (128), runs (69), doubles (30), and stolen bases (32). He led the league in steals and is the only player in the Minors or Majors to have at least 30 doubles and 30 stolen bases this season.
