Islanders Recall Martin from Sound Tigers

BRIDGEPORT, Conn,, February 8, 2011 - The New York Islanders announced today that goaltender Joel Martin has been recalled on an emergency basis from the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the American Hockey League (AHL).

Martin, 28, has played in six games this season with Bridgeport, posting a 3.19 goals against average (GAA) and a .898 save percentage (sv%). The Fort Worth, TX, native began the season in the Central Hockey League (CHL) with the Odessa Jackalopes, where he had a 10-9-0 record with a 3.61 GAA and a .888 sv%. Martin signed a two-way contract with the Islanders on Feb. 4.

The 6'1", 185-pound backstop turned professional in 2003-04 after completing a four-year junior career in the Western Hockey League. In eight professional season, Martin has played in the CHL, the East Coast Hockey League, the United Hockey League and the AHL.
