Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
Toledo, Ohio - After waiting out a two-hour rain delay, the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (48-44, 12-7) claimed a 7-5, seven-inning, victory over the Toledo Mud Hens (40-54, 7-12), securing a series win, on Saturday night at Fifth Third Field.
The IronPigs got the offense going right away after waiting out the storms. Kody Clemens socked a three-run homer, his first of the year, in the first inning to give Lehigh Valley a 3-0 lead.
Toledo answered with Colt Keith knocking in runs with a double in the third and then a single in the fifth to make it a 3-2 game.
Trying to bust the game open, the IronPigs scored three times in the sixth as Esteban Quiroz drove in two with a single and Cal Stevenson produced another run with a base hit.
In the seventh, Quiroz came in clutch again with another RBI base hit, extending the IronPigs lead to 7-2.
Toledo made things interesting in the last of the seventh. After Keith forced home a run with a bases loaded walk, Tyler Nevin plated two with a base hit to put the tying run aboard and bring the winning run to the plate. Luis F. Ortiz managed to get Donny Sands to ground in to a game-ending double play, securing the 7-5 win.
Noah Song (1-0) picked up the win for the IronPigs in his rehab outing, allowing one run in two innings on two hits and a walk, striking out three.
Sawyer Gipson-Long (0-1) took the loss for the Mud Hens, allowing three runs on six hits and a walk in five innings, striking out seven.
The IronPigs wrap up their series against the Mud Hens on Sunday, July 23rd with first pitch slated for 2:05 p.m.
