
Bats Lose 7-3 Against Columbus

LOUISVILLE, KY - Alejo Lopez smashed a homer, extending his on-base streak to 27 games, but the Louisville Mashers (51-42) ultimately fell 7-3 to the Columbus Clippers (43-50) on Saturday night at Louisville Slugger Field.
Playing as the Mashers, Louisville got off to a quick start, scoring their first run in the bottom of the second. Following a single by Noelvi Marte, Jose Barrero blasted a triple into right field to put the Mashers up 1-0.
Columbus got on the board in the top of the third with a pair of home runs, surging ahead with a score of 3-1.
Louisville rallied in the bottom of the third, starting with a solo homer by Alejo Lopez. His fifth of the season, Lopez's longball extended his on-base streak to 27 games, the longest by a Louisville player since 2014, and cut the Clippers' lead down to 3-2.
The Mashers scored again in the bottom of the fourth with a double by Marte and an RBI single by Chuckie Robinson, evening up the score at 3-3.
The Clippers fought back in the top of the fifth, taking advantage of a couple of walks to retake the lead at 4-3. With a three-run homer in the top of the eighth, Columbus strengthened their lead at 7-3.
Louisville threatened to tie it up in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings, but were unable to come back as the Clippers held on a final score of 7-3.
Louisville will play the final game in the series against Columbus tomorrow, Sunday, July 23 with the first pitch set for 6:05 pm E.T. Righthander Christian Roa (0-3, 11.85) will take the mound for the Bats, pitching against Clippers' righty Peyton Battenfield (1-0, 4.82).
