Buffalo Bisons News Release
SYRACUSE, NY - Despite a five-RBI game by Spencer Horwitz, a last-minute walk-off comeback by the Mets led to an 8-7 loss for the Buffalo Bisons on Saturday night at NBT Bank Stadium in Syracuse, New York.
The Bisons wasted zero time getting the game going as Nathan Lukes hit a solo home run off of the second pitch of the game in the top of the first inning to put the Herd out to a quick 1-0 lead. Spencer Horwitz followed that up with a solo home run of his own, making it a 2-0 game. This is Lukes' third home run of the season and Horwitz's seventh.
Syracuse answered back in the bottom of the third inning as Carlos Cortes' single to right field allowed Luke Voit to round home, 2-1.
Horwitz didn't let the Mets start a comeback as he made it a 4-1 game in the top of the fifth with a double to right field that scored Ernie Clement. This is Horwitz's 49th RBI of the season, which trails only Davis Schneider on the Herd's roster.
The Mets made it a closer game in the bottom of the fifth with a Voit home run to dead center field, 4-2. Cortes rounded up another RBI for himself as he hit a sacrifice fly that was far enough to score Abraham Almonte from third base which made it a 4-3 game.
Horowitz's hot bat continued as he picked up his fourth and fifth RBI of the game on a single that scored Cameron Eden and Lukes, 6-3. Schneider gave the Herd some insurance runs as his long sac fly made it a 7-3 game when Clement rounded home. Schneider's sac fly was good for his 54th home run of the year, which leads the Bisons.
Syracuse kept on chipping away at the Bisons lead as Almonte grounded into a force out in the bottom of the sixth which allowed Rafael Ortega to run home for a 7-4 ballgame.
The bottom of the ninth proved to be the downfall of the Bisons as Michael Perez doubled on a line drive to right, sending Jose Peraza and Cortes home to make it a 7-6 game. Ronny Mauricio was sadly the nail in the Herds coffin as he walked off the game with a two-run home run to right, ending the game 8-7 in Syracuse's favor.
Buffalo and Syracuse will wrap up their six-game series on Sunday with a 1:05 p.m. scheduled first pitch. RHP Wes Parsons is set to take the mound for the Bisons and RHP Tylor Megill will be on the bump for the opposing Mets.
