Aberdeen IronBirds News Release
Two-run 7th Secures IronBirds Victory
After giving up the lead in the top of the 7th, the IronBirds pushed across two runs in the bottom half to take a decisive 5-3 lead. Trey Mancini's RBI double followed by Conor Bierfeldt's RBI single was a good enough counter to Renegade's second baseman Ariel Soriano's 2-RBI single, which tied the game in the top half of the 7th inning. Despite giving up 11 hits to Hudson Valley, Aberdeen pitchers, backed by solid defense in the field, were able to hold the Renegades to just three runs in the game. Sebastian Vader gave up all three runs on 10 hits in 6.1 innings of work. Janser Severino came in out of the bullpen to pitch 2.1 scoreless innings to get his second win of the season.
Power on Display by Mancini
Trey Mancini launched the first pitch he saw in the first inning, deep over the left field wall for a two-run homer. It was his third long-ball of the season and his second in the last week. Mancini later hit a long double deep in the right-centerfield gap to plate his third RBI of the game. He leads the team in doubles (15) as well as average (.328), hits (66), runs scored (34), runs batted-in (31) and slugging percentage (.468).
Checking the Standings...
Last night's win, the IronBirds 30th of the season, pushed their division lead to 1.5 games in the McNamara division. The 'Birds gained ground on the second place Brooklyn Cyclones after they split a double-header at home against the fourth place Staten Island Yankees. Hudson Valley continues to fade as they sit in third place, 4.5 games behind the IronBirds.
On the mound tonight...
RHP Hunter Harvey makes his IronBirds debut tonight after getting his first promotion of his pro career from the Gulf Coast League Orioles. Harvey has been dominant in his first weeks as a pro, spreading out 13.1 innings over five starts with a 1.35 ERA and 18 strikeouts against just two walks. IronBirds hitters will face LHP Chris Kirsch who is 1-3 with a 3.18 ERA. Kirsch is 1-1 in his two previous starts against Aberdeen, with the seven earned runs in 11 innings inflated by the six earned runs he gave up in a loss on 7/3.
