State College Spikes News Release

-SPIKES RESUME SAWBUCK SERIES WITH ROAD MATCHUP: The State College Spikes return to road action tonight as they take on the rival Williamsport Crosscutters in a SawBuck Series matchup at Historic Bowman Field. The contest is the opener of a three-game series between the two teams, with the last two matchups in State College on Wednesday and Thursday. The Spikes are currently tied with Jamestown for the New York-Penn League Pinckney Division lead and the best record in the NYPL. The Spikes are in the NYPL Wild Card lead (along with Jamestown) by a full game over Tri-City as well. State College is 42-48 all-time against Williamsport, with a 19-26 road record. The Spikes are 3-0 at Historic Bowman Field this season.

-LAST GAME: The Spikes battled back from a late deficit to force extra innings, and Ronald Castillo delivered the game-ending single in the 11th inning to give State College its sixth walk-off win of the year with a 2-1 victory over the Batavia Muckdogs on Monday night at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. Down 1-0 going into the eighth inning, the Spikes tied it up as Steven Ramos manufactured a run with a hit, stolen base and a dash home following an errant throw on the steal. In the eleventh, Cesar Valera got the final rally going as he beat out an infield single and scored the winning run. Victor DeLeon earned the win with 1 1/3 scoreless innings of relief. Kevin Herget allowed one unearned run over a career-long six innings in the start for the Spikes.

-BAUTISTA GETS BALL FOR SPIKES: Right-hander Juan Bautista goes to the mound for State College tonight. Bautista was outstanding in his last outing, giving up just one unearned run over a season-long seven innings of work against Mahoning Valley on Wednesday. The righty makes his tenth start of the year for the Spikes, and has gone at least five innings in all of them. Bautista has not faced the Crosscutters since Opening Night on June 17, when he took the loss after yielding three runs, two earned, over five frames.

-CROSSCUTTERS MAKE MARTIN STARTER FOR OPENER: Right-hander Shane Martin makes the start tonight for Williamsport. Martin is making his 12th start for the Crosscutters this season, but his first against the Spikes. The Phillies' ninth-round draft choice in 2013 out of Southwestern Oklahoma State, Martin allowed only one unearned run, one hit and one walk over five innings against Auburn on Thursday in a no-decision. The Weatherford, OK native holds a 2.25 home ERA this season compared to a 4.88 mark on the road.

-SPIKES PITCHING SHINING ABOVE ALL: The Spikes' mound corps has been a huge factor in the late surge this season. State College leads every club in Minor League Baseball with a 2.43 team ERA. The Spikes have also got a quality start (at least six innings with three or less earned runs) in every game since the All-Star break save for Willy Paulino's five shutout innings on Saturday in Jamestown, and have a 1.61 ERA in that time.

-SPIKE MARKS: Steven Ramos leads the NYPL in batting by six points over Jamestown's Adam Frazier (.360 to .354)...David Washington leads the NYPL in RBI with 37...Washington is also tied for third in homers with eight, and is tied for the Spikes' record for single-season home runs...The Spikes are second in the NYPL in double plays turned with 60 total...Hudson Valley leads the league with 67...State College is 4-1 on Tuesday
