Jamestown, N.Y.- The Jammers used two big innings Monday night to secure their second win in a row 8-7 against the Auburn Doubledays. Edwin Espinal would lead the offensive charge early on as he clubbed his first home run in a Jammers uniform and followed suit in the third inning with an RBI double.
Jean Valdez touched home plate for the games first run in the first inning after legging out a one out triple. Bryan Lippincott would drive in Valdez one batter later on an RBI groundout to Michael Fransoso. Cody Dickson would work out of the inning surrendering just the one run.
Candon Myles got the home crowd up on their feet in the home half of the inning as he legged out a leadoff triple of his own. Adam Frazier tied the game up two batters later with a RBI sacrifice fly to score Myles to make it 1-1. After a Wyatt Mathisen walk Espinal grooved a ball to deep left center field to give the Jammers a 4-1 lead.
The Doubledays would try and work their way back into the game in the third inning against Dickson. Jean Valdez would pick up his second extra base hit of the night as his third home run of the season made it a 5-3 game. The Jammers would add a run in the bottom half of the inning as they would take a three run lead heading into the fourth inning.
Dickson would work himself into a bases loaded jam in the top of the fourth inning and would exit clinging to a 6-3 lead. Henry Hirsch would enter the game in a bit of a bind and Kyle Attl brought Auburn within a run as he plated two runs with a single to right field making it 6-5. Hirsch would work out of the jam stranding the would be tying run on base.
Silvio Medina would silence the Jammers bats in the middle innings of the game after taking over for Joel Barrientos who registered three innings allowing six runs on six hits and walking four batters. The Doubledays offense would get Barrientos off the hook for a decision in the seventh inning as Matt Foat singled in Lippincott to tie the game 6-6 against Will Kendall, who allowed just the one run in two innings of work.
The game would not stay tied for long as the Jammers would muster together one finally offensive push in the bottom of the eighth inning. Elvis Escobar would come through in the clutch for Jamestown with a pinch hit RBI single scoring Fransoso from third with the bases loaded. Leading 7-6, Jake Joyce would issue a bases loaded walk to Frazier making it 8-6 Jamestown. The second run of the inning would prove crucial as the Doubledays would score a run in the ninth inning against Roberto Espinosa to make things interesting. With two outs and runners on the corners, Brett McKinney would need just one pitch to lock up the win and improve the Jammers record to 35-23 on the season.
Espinosa moved to 2-2 on the season with the win and McKinney raised his number of saves on the season to seven. Cody Dickson picked up the no-decision after allowing five runs on four hits in 3 2/3 innings of work. The Jammers win would prove to be huge as they remain tied atop the Pinckney Division with State College after the Spikes 2-1 win in extra innings against Batavia.
