IronBirds Sneak Past Muckdogs, 2-1

Aberdeen, MD- The IronBirds took care of business tonight and continued their winning ways, earning a 2-1 victory over the Batavia Muckdogs. The 'Birds are now 6-19 on the season and 6-3 over their last nine games.

Steve Johnson got the start for the IronBirds, pitching two scoreless inning, allowing no hits, and one walk. He threw twenty pitches in total and allowed just two runners to reach base, one courtesy of a walk and one on a fielding error. Tanner Chleborad relieved Johnson in the third inning.

The IronBirds got on the board first in the second inning, as a Jay Gonzalez single followed by a fielding error from Muckdogs shortstop Javier Lopez scored both Tanner Murphy and Austin Pfeiffer, and Aberdeen led 2-0 heading to the third.

The Muckdogs finally got on the board in the sixth inning, as a wild pitch from reliever Josh Walker scored Brian Anderson. The Muckdogs almost tied the game, but a fantastic throw by shortstop Justin Viele from deep in the hole ended the inning and another Batavia scoring opportunity.

Ivan Hernandez entered the game in the ninth inning as the 'Birds led 2-1 and promptly retired the side, earning his first save of the season.

Tanner Chleborad earned his first professional win and Jorgan Cavanerio received the loss.

The middle game of this three game series is tomorrow night, with first pitch scheduled at 7:05 p.m. LHP Bennett Parry (1-0, 0.90) will go for the IronBirds, while the Muckdogs will send out LHP Michael Mader (0-0, 1.29).
