
Doubledays Beat the Tigers

Norwich, CT - The Auburn Doubledays (11-15) defeated the Connecticut Tigers (12-14) by a score of 3-1 Wednesday night at Dodd Stadium. The Doubledays won a pitcher's duel in game one of the three-game series.
RHP Reynaldo Lopez (2-2) pitched six scoreless innings while giving up three hits, three walks and struck out four batters. RHP Mario Sanchez (S, 3) picked up his third save of the season in three tries as he pitched three innings while allowing one run on three hits and struck out two.
Tigers RHP Tanner Bailey (1-1) suffered his first loss of the season in five starts. Bailey pitched six innings while allowing two runs on six hits. Bailey gave up an RBI triple to DH Jose Marmolejos (1-4) which scored 2B Willie Medina (2-4) and put the Doubledays in front 1-0 in the sixth inning. C Raudy Reed (1-4) added an RBI double which gave Auburn a 2-0 lead.
After an 18 run and 17 hit performance on Tuesday afternoon, the bats for the Tigers cooled off on Wednesday night. The Tigers managed one run on six hits and were 1-for-7 with runners in scoring position while leaving six stranded. The only run scored for Connecticut came in the seventh inning on an RBI double from C Franklin Navarro (1-2) that scored 2B Domingo Leyba (1-4) and cut the Doubledays lead to one run at 2-1.
In game two of the three-game series, Tigers RHP AJ Ladwig (0-0, 9.00) is slated to face Doubledays LHP Travis Ott (0-1, 2.87). Tomorrow is Thirsty Thursday: Pre-Game Happy Hour. The gates open at 5 p.m. for a special pre-game Happy Hour at The Hole in the Wall Bar on the first base concourse featuring live music and drink specials. The Connecticut Tigers are the Class-A affiliate of the Detroit Tigers and play in the New York-Penn League. The Tigers are in their 5th season at Dodd Stadium. Tickets are now on sale!
