Jammers Look to Right Ship at Home
JAMESTOWN, NY - Things again aren't going well for the Jamestown Jammers. After an impressive 5-1 road trip, which seems like forever ago, the Jammers have lost eight games in a row. However, the Jammers will return home to Diethrick Park for the longest homestand of the season that starts tonight (July 9th). The first three games of the homestand will be against the Tri-City ValleyCats. Tri-City is off to a great start this season, and currently leads the Stedler division with a 16-9 record. The Jammers on the other hand, find themselves at 8-16 and 9.5 games back of the State College Spikes, who are in first place in the Pinckney division.
Probable Pitchers
Wednesday July 9th: RHP Austin Chrismon (Tri-City, 2-2, 5.57 ERA) vs. RHP Frank Duncan (Jamestown, 0-1, 5.40 ERA)
Austin Chrismon: Has pitched in five games so far for the ValleyCats this season (four starts). In 21 innings, Chrismon has given up 24 hits, struck out 14 batters, has only surrendered two walks, has a 2-2 record, and an ERA of 5.57. He was a 26th round pick in the 2013 Draft, and last pitched for the Greenville Astros of the Appalachian League before joining Tri-City.
Frank Duncan: Has made four starts for the Jammers so far in 2014. In 16 2/3 innings, Duncan has given up 20 hits, 11 runs (10 earned), struck out three, has a record of 0-1, and an ERA of 5.40. Duncan was a 13th round pick in the 2014 Draft out of the University of Kansas.
Thursday July 10th: RHP Joe Musgrove (Tri-City, 1-1, 5.03 ERA) vs. RHP Marek Minarik (Jamestown, 0-2, 3.74 ERA)
Joe Musgrove: Has made five appearances for the ValleyCats so far this season (four starts). In 19 2/3 innings, Musgrove has given up 28 hits, 12 runs (11 earned), has a record of 1-1, and an ERA of 5.03. He was acquired via trade in 2012, and last pitched for the Gulf Coast League Astros.
Marek Minarik: Has made five appearances so far for the Jammers. In 21 2/3 innings, Minarik has given up 20 hits, 10 runs (nine earned), has struck out 10, has an 0-2 record, and an ERA of 3.74. Minarik was acquired by the Pirates a Minor League Free Agent in 2013, and last pitched for the Gulf Coast League Phillies in 2012.
Friday July 11th: RHP Luis Ordosgoitti (Tri-City, 2-1, 4.95 ERA) vs. RHP Tyler Eppler (Jamestown, 0-1, 3.86 ERA)
Luis Ordosgoitti: Has made five appearances for Tti-City in 2014 (three starts). In 20 innings, Ordosgoitti has given up 20 hits, 11 runs (all earned), has struck out 18 batters, has a 2-1 record, and an ERA of 4.95. He was acquired as an international free agent in 2009, and last pitched for the Greenville Astros.
Tyler Eppler: Has made five appearances so far for Jamestown (all starts). In 21 innings, Eppler has given up 19 hits, 10 runs (9 earned), has only waked three batters, has struck out 15, has an 0-1 record, and an ERA of 3.86. Was drafted in the 6th round of the 2014 Draft out of Sam Houston State.
Players to Watch (Tri-City)
Ryan Bottger (Outfielder): In his last 10 games, Bottger is hitting a scorching .417, with 15 hits in 36 at-bats, three home runs, and 9 RBIs.
Bobby Boyd (Outfielder): Boyd isn't that far behind in his last 10 games. He is hitting .410, with 16 hits in 39 at-bats, and 3 RBIs.
J.D. Davis (Infielder): In his last 10 games, Davis is hitting .333, with 11 hits in 33 at-bats, two home runs, and 12 RBIs
Players to Watch (Jamestown)
Carl Anderson (Outfielder): Anderson has has hit well since Opening Night. At this point in the season, he leads the whole New York-Penn League in hits with 34. He also sits 6th in the league in batting average (340).
Taylor Gushue (Catcher): Gushue has been right alongside Anderson all season long leading the Jamestown offense. Through Gushue's first 19 games he is hitting .318 (8th in the New York-Penn League), has four home runs, 16 RBIs, five doubles, and two triples.
Jordan Luplow (Infielder): Despite a late start to the season, Jordan Luplow has been an having an easy time adjusting from college. The 3rd round pick in 2014 out of Fresno State is hitting .327 (7th in the New York Penn League), has 18 hits, two home runs, eight RBIs, three doubles, and one triple.
