Aberdeen, MD - The Aberdeen IronBirds fell 12-5 to the rival Brooklyn Cyclones Tuesday evening by a score of 12-5. Aberdeen set a new team record by stealing nine bases in the ballgame. Unfortunately, that would be one of the only highlights as Brooklyn scored three runs in both the seventh and eighth innings to make it a rout.

Aberdeen scored right away in the first inning. Glynn Davis led off with a single and Sammie Starr walked. Mychal Givens hit an RBI single that scored Davis and Austin Goolsby's sacrifice fly made it 2-0 IronBirds.

The IronBirds would add one more in the bottom of the second. Kyle Hoppy led off with a single and came home on a delayed double steal with Martin Serrata after he reached base on a one out single.

Brooklyn got on the board in the top of the third off of Aberdeen starter Jake Cowan. Brandon Brown worked a one out walk and scored on Cole Frenzel's RBI triple, making it 3-1.

Aberdeen got the run back in the bottom of the inning. Goolsby hit a two out single, and was batted home when Dudley Leonora hit an RBI single to make it 4-1 in favor of the home team.

Brooklyn seized control of the game in the top half of the fifth inning. The Cyclones sent 10 batters to the plate, scoring five runs off of three walks, four singles and one IronBird error and it was 6-4 Brooklyn.

Aberdeen scored their final run of the ballgame in the bottom of the fifth. Connor Narron led off with a single, advanced to second on a walk and then scored when Leonora grounded out to short.

Brooklyn used two singles, a double and a triple to score three in the seventh and an error, two singles and a double to tack on three more in the eighth, making the final score 12-5 Brooklyn.

Kyle Simon, the Orioles' 4th round pick in the 2011 draft, made his professional debut. He pitched a scoreless ninth inning for Aberdeen.

Cowan takes the loss, falling to 0-4. Todd Weldon pitches two innings in relief and gets the win, improving to 2-0 on the season.

The second game of this two game series will start tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. at Ripken Stadium. Trent Howard (1-1, 5.56) will go for the IronBirds, while the Cyclones will counter with Carlos Vasquez (2-2, 2.43)
