Cutters Survive Late Auburn Rally

July 19, 2011 - New York-Penn League (NYPL)
Williamsport Crosscutters News Release

The Williamsport Crosscutters defeated the Auburn Doubledays for the fifth time this season, hanging on for a 3-2 victory Tuesday night at Historic Bowman Field.

The Cutters tallied all their runs in the bottom of the first, as Maikel Franco's two-run single Harold Martinez's RBI double put the home team up 3-0.

A 60-minute rain delay halted play in the top of the sixth inning. Cutters starter Mike Nesseth finished with five innings of shutout baseball, allowing just four hits while striking out three.

Williamsport reliever Hector Neris fired two shutout innings of relief, and Gabriel Arias delivered a perfect eighth. But Arias loaded the bases with nobody out in the top of the ninth before being lifted for Juary Gomez. Gomez allowed two runs to score but struck out Roberto Perez to end the game and strand two Auburn runners.

These two teams will rematch here tomorrow at 7:05pm before heading to Auburn for two from July 21-22. Every Cutters matchup can be heard on ESPN Radio 104.1 FM, ESPN 1050 AM, or online at crosscutters.com
