Jamestown Jammers News Release
JAMESTOWN, N.Y. - The Batavia Muckdogs raced out to an early lead and never looked back with a win, 10-2, over the Jamestown Jammers and move into a ï¬Ârst-place tie with the purple and green at Diethrick Park Tuesday night.
The loss drops the Jammers back in to a three-way tie with Batavia and Mahoning Valley for ï¬Ârst place in the Pinckney Division at 18-14.
Garrett Wittels ripped a triple to right ï¬Âeld and scored two batters later to give the Muckdogs an early advantage. David Medina added a RBI single of his own to make it 2-0.
Another triple, this one by Nick Martini, allowed Batavia to tack on another run on a sacriï¬Âce ï¬ây by Cesar Valera.
In the fourth inning, Batavia added three more runs with Virgil Hill's solo homer the big blast. Three other singles accounted for the offense in the frame.
Jamestown ï¬Ânally got on the scoreboard in the bottom of sixth on a leadoff walk by Jobduan Morales, and Josh Adams followed with a single. A ground out advanced the runners, and Kentrell Dewitt hit a sacriï¬Âce ï¬ây to score Morales.
However, the Muckdogs would respond with three more runs to put the game out of reach. Batavia had two singles and three walks to account for the runs.
Jamestown started to mount a comeback in the seventh inning with two singles to start the inning; however, a double play would end the chances and put the game out of reach.
Marquise Cooper led the offense with two singles and a run scored for Jamestown. Five other players had hits for Jamestown, while Jose Urena took the loss. He went 3.2 innings and gave up eight hits and six runs.
For Batavia, Patrick Daugherty earned the win after throwing two innings of relief. He gave up just two hits and a single earned run to earn his third win of the season. Hill led the offense with two hits including a homer and two RBI.
The two teams will be back in action to wrap up the eight-game home stand Tuesday at 7:05 p.m.
